The Hoya 58mm HD2 Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter has an 8-layer multi-coating for very high average light transmission of 99.35%. It is constructed from optical glass and features a thin frame.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

Constructed from hardened optical glass to increase strength and durability.
Thin frame.
Water- and oil-repellent and scratch- and stain-resistant, making for easy cleaning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super nice When I first held it up I thought they had sent me the wrong filter. I couldn't believe a polarizer was so lightly tinted. Works great. I would buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent filter at at great price Just getting into photography and in doing my on-line research found this polarizing filter to be very well-regarded and a solid value proposition between excellent quality and affordability. Some on-line shopping and price comparing led me to B&H Photo as the best price and overall value. I online chatted with a rep from B&H and his advice gave me comfort this was a good choice. Ordered and received promptly. Have been experimenting with it and it provides just the right amount of glare-cutting power. Thumbs up for both Hoya and B&H Photo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good quality and bright filter seems to be blocking less light than other ones. always liked hoya adn kenko thin frame filters adn this one is no different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Thin! It is so thin and light weight. I also like the fact the lens is multi-coated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Advertised Everything i expected out of the filter based from the product descriptions were correct. It has a solid feel to it but not heavy. I think the polarizer is easy to rotate though so might have been better if there's a bit more resistance when turning. The only thing i won;t be able to test though would be the durability of the glass since it's HD2. I'd leave that to actual usage instead :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter to use outside My first 58mm HD2 circular polarizing filter was absolutely fantastic until I tried to clean the surface. Thus my need to purchase a replacement.
