Acratech GPss overview

  • 1Description

The Acratech GP-ss Ballhead With Lever Clamp has the ability to function as a gimbal head and as a panoramic head, providing you with incredible positioning flexibility and stability for your equipment. Gimbal heads are desirable when shooting with telephoto lenses, especially when following moving objects. Rather than a rubber knob, this model features a locking lever for securing the Arca Swiss-style clamp that constitutes the quick-release element.

The GP-ss Ballhead is designed with a small diameter base of 2.08" to allow it to be used with travel-type tripods where the legs fold around the tripod head. The smaller base diameter allows the tripod legs to fold more compactly.

Even when using your tripod on rocky, uneven terrain the GP-ss Ballhead allows you to pan parallel to the horizon, eliminating the need to carry a separate leveling base to create accurate panoramic images.

    Acratech GPss reviews

GP-ss Ballhead With Lever Clamp is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ball head I use the GP-ss with Sony A7rII camera and lenses put to 200mm on travel sized tripods from Feisol and 3LT. I am using the GP-ss in the inverted position as a pano/stitching head in conjunction with a nodal rail. I also use an Arca Swiss P0 ball head with a RRS lever clamp. The Acratech is very well built, on par with AS. The lever clamp is excellent. I would definitely get that over a knob version due to the quickness of use and the surety of the lock. It is super lightweight and weighs almost 3 oz less than my AS setup. This is an ideal ball head for travel tripod but is solid enough for lager setups as well. I am not aware of a lighter setup that comes close to load capacity and built in panning feature (apart from the AS P0).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid and compact I bought the Acratech GP-ss head to replace the stock V1 head on a Benro Travel Angel II carbon fiber 1682. I chose the lever option. The GP-22 is not as compact as the V1 so the tripod is not as compact when folded - I cannot close the carrying case all the way. However, after a lot of research, I felt the GP-ss was the best option for rock solid support and travel. It has met expectations! I do plan to buy the largest Acratech head for a large (no column) tripod in the near future. My only complaint is that I think Acratech should include an quick release plate with the head!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, steady and smooth Gimbal moving This ballhead exceeds my expectations. Using like as a Gimbal head, this held Nikon D3X with 1.4 tele converter and Nikon 200-500mm steadily, stiff and moving was very smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice US made ballhead Overall very nice. Movement of ball coyld be a little smoother but it is a very minor detail. Really have to be picky to find issues with this head for general use. Very solid and easy to use. If it matters it is also made in the US.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth Every Penny This is a great ballhead. Have used it for several days, supporting my D810 with various lenses up to 70-200mm 2.8 on a Gitzo Explorer and it performs beautifully. Only wish I had picked one up earlier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slick as sh__ Love it. The GimBall thing is really cool, and WORKS! Knobs are very easy for these old hands to turn and the lever clamp works better than I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grate product It weight half the weight of my old manfrotto ball head and can use it for quick panoram photos as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Very good construction: solid, strong, and good movement. Light enough for my travel tripod.
