Varavon MTF-UNI Overview

  • 1Description

The Multi Finder LCD Viewfinder Uni Set from Varavon is a multi-functional viewfinder designed to better utilize the LCD monitor of a DSLR when shooting HD video. It provides a universal mounting plate, riser, the LCD viewer and a loupe with eyecup that combine to create an adjustable yet stable viewing system compatible with numerous DSLRs.

An aluminum alloy universal plate provides a sliding 1/4"-20 bolt that mounts the viewer to your camera. It attaches via the tripod socket and can adjust its width to align with the camera you are using. Its sturdy build holds the viewer in place. The 3.5" viewer also has a special riser to adjust up or down to align with the LCD on your camera and its rubber mount rests snugly against the LCD.

The viewer can be used as a simple sun shade but also contains a mirror and can be utilized as a waist-level low-angle viewfinder. With the viewer open and locking lever released, you can insert the loupe with eyecup in order to film as a stabilized, straight view finder. The loupe's focus is adjusted easily with a conveniently placed dial. The Multi Finder Uni Set will fit numerous DSLR cameras including the Canon 1D C and Nikon D4.

With adjustable screw placement, support bracket and width alignment, the aluminum alloy universal plate can be mounted on numerous cameras

    Varavon MTF-UNI Reviews

Multi Finder LCD Viewfinder Uni Set is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Varavon = quality and versatility From the packaging to the build this product is great! I used with both my 5D mkii and mkiii and with the feature of moving the plate it is easy to adjust from one camera to the other. I never use both at the same time so this option was a must for me instead of buying two separate viewfinders. The feature for low angle shooting is great, never thought I'd use it that much but work perfectly! It adds another level of story telling. the Eye cup is great not to hard nor soft and the build quality like i mention is up to my high standards.Another great feature is the base plate has a mount for the tripod mount and with the lock hole available its more sturdy and stays in place than if I just mount the camera to the tripod mount. All in all this is a MUST to ensure quality and better the work flow! Highly recommend to anyone!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Varavon Viewfinder for DSLR I just used this item on it's debut Wedding Video shoot. It fits my 5D MkIII very well, feels sturdy and well built. If I had a couple of 'cons', I'd mention the top door, which flipped up constantly whenever my camera strap brushed it, and the optics seemed a little less sharp (more 'hazy') than I expected for the price. It does feel more durable than the more budget Cavision equivalent on my other body though, and I like the option to lift the whole camera (for above-the-crowd shots), whilst looking through the inverted eyepiece.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Features - Bad (Non-Existent) Customer Service I have two of these, with their most important feature for me being the waist level finder capability - which I need for what/how I shoot, and really like. By the way, they are not that bad as to overall build quality and features, in my opinion. I bought a new one and a used one, and had to repair and modify the used one, and needed a part (which I never was able to get). I found a work-around for the missing part. Their big weakness, from my perspective, is that if you need help or support you are totally on your own. I called and e-mailed the US rep, and also emailed Varavon directly in Korea - with no response whatsoever from anyone. One small buyer caveat: check the base carefully as one type has arca grooves cut in it (you need a 60mm clamp to hold it securely) and the other has no grooves (you need to add an arca plate to the bottom to use it, which makes it thicker). I have both types and much prefer the former. I've attached photos of each clamp area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME VIEWFINDER! I have a Canon 5D that I use to shoot video. This viewfinder is excellent for exterior shooting. It is easy to use, sturdy and offers excellent clarity. I'd highly recommend for anyone shooting in sunlight situations. I had another brand previously that didn't work nearly as well. It was difficult to attach and the rubber seal would fall off all the time. I am very happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile product I am using this viewfinder to shoot video with both a Canon 7D with battery grip and 5D MII. The best part of this product is the versatility to move it from camera to camera. With the included wrenches the unit quickly adjusts and fits snug. The only thing that could be improved is the diopter adjustment. Other than that the product is well built and is worth every penny.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from nice but.... Obviously the best thing of this viewfinder is the possibility to watch your lcd even from the top of the camera. But the construction it's not so good for the price you pay. Novertheless it's worth buying if you use slider with your dslr.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product This is a great device. I thought about buying a cheaper product, but this one proved to be the best as it affixes securely to the camera without some kind of cheesy rubber bands or magnets. It feels totally solid and does a great job. My only complaint is that it blocks the battery door and each time I need to put in a new battery on the T3i, I have to remove it from the camera.

    question

I shoot mostly with the EOS 7d, I've read in the comments that the viewfinder does allow for grips in its alignment with the camera's viewfinder, but, does the multifinder allow for applications and attaching to 15mm rigs? Any special clamp or additional mechanism necessary?
    Asked by: kev c.
I'm not sure if this answers your question or not, but there is a standard 1/4 -20 hole on the bottom of the baseplate for mounting the camera/viewfinder assembly onto another piece of equipment like a tripod etc. I assume it would also mount on a rig provided that the rig has a 1/4 -20 mount option available.
