You can capture beautiful photos and Full HD 1080p video of coral, parrot fish, and other sea life at depths as great as 200', thanks to Ikelite's Underwater Housing for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 or Leica D-LUX 6 digital camera. The camera's built-in flash is usable, but its range, coverage, power, and color-correcting capabilities are limited and it's likely to cause backscatter, so it's recommended that you use an Ikelite DS Substrobe or other external flash. Built-in TTL flash circuitry and an Ikelite 5-pin TTL connector enable the attachment and firing of such a strobe with a sync cord.

The housing's mechanical controls provide access to all camera functions except for the aspect ratio selector switch, flash open switch, and ND/FOCUS lever. Built for durability, the enclosure is constructed from corrosion-resistant polycarbonate and acrylic, which are clear to enable you to monitor the camera and O-ring seal.

Attach optional, external, 67mm wide-angle and macro "wet" lenses to the housing's built-in, flat glass lens port. A wide-angle lens will increase your angle of coverage, allowing you to get close to your subject while fitting more in the frame. A macro lens will enable extreme close-ups with great clarity and detail. Both types of optics will cut down on distortion caused by the water, resulting in better image quality. When you're not using an external strobe, you'll want to attach an optional, external color-correction filter for blue or green water to restore hues that get absorbed beneath the surface.

Construction Details
  • Depth rating: 200'
  • Made by hand in USA from corrosion-resistant polycarbonate and acrylic
  • Clear to enable you to monitor the camera and O-ring seal
  • Simply close the 2 stainless steel locking latches to see the O-ring form a solid, black, watertight seal
Controls and Handling
  • Large, ergonomic mechanical controls, including push-buttons, knurled knobs/dials, and a lever, provide access to all camera functions except for the aspect ratio selector switch, flash open switch, and ND/FOCUS lever
  • Equipped with a 12-24 thread for mounting an optional aluminum tray with 1 or 2 grips, which will improve balance and handling while providing attachment points for lighting arms
Lens Port
  • Built-in, flat glass lens port with 3.0" diameter
  • Accepts optional, external, 67mm threaded wide-angle and macro "wet" lenses
  • Wide-angle lens increases your angle of coverage, allowing you to get close to your subject while fitting more in the frame
  • Macro lens enables extreme close-ups with great clarity and detail, so you can fill the whole frame with a tiny sea creature
  • Both types of accessory conversion lenses cut down on distortion caused by the water, resulting in better image quality
  • Ikelite WD-3 Wide-Angle Dome provides mid-range coverage with no vignetting
  • Ikelite W-30, INON UWL-H100, and other 67mm wide-angle options offer wider coverage, but not without a little vignetting and edge distortion
  • By using a smaller aperture, zooming in slightly, and/or cropping in post-production, vignetting and distortion can be reduced or eliminated
  • Available macro lenses include those from INON, Epoque, and other brands
  • When not using an external strobe, attach an optional, external color-correction filter for blue or green water to your port, in order to restore hues that are absorbed beneath the surface
  • 3.0" filters can be pressed directly onto the port; larger 3.6" size may be required when fitting filters onto wide-angle wet lenses
Strobe Connection and Operation
  • Camera's built-in flash is usable, but its range, coverage, power, and color-correcting capabilities are limited and it's likely to cause backscatter
  • Use of an Ikelite DS Substrobe or other external flash is highly recommended
  • Built-in TTL circuitry and Ikelite 5-pin TTL bulkhead sync connector enable you to trigger an optional Ikelite DS Substrobe in automatic exposure mode. Third-party strobes may be used in manual mode only
  • A sync cord is required, unless the flash functions as a wireless slave unit triggered by the camera's flash, as Ikelite's AF35 does. Some strobes that typically take a sync cord can be triggered this way, as well
  • Compatible Ikelite DS strobes include the DS50 (above serial number 70000), DS51, DS125 (above serial number 5000), DS160, DS161, and DS200 (above serial number 7163)
  • With a sync cord connection, the camera's built-in flash does not need to fire, so your battery life will be extended and flash recycling time will be decreased
  • External strobe also eliminates backscatter, glare, and hard shadows often caused by a built-in flash
  • If you are using the camera's flash, the included diffuser softens its light
  • If you want to trigger an external strobe wirelessly as a slave, instead of using the hard-wired sync cord connection, you can redirect the light of the built-in flash towards your strobe via the supplied deflector
