B+W 66-1075248 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 58mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of 1 to 5 stops. The 0.3 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin, oversized mount which helps to reduce the likelihood to vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. The filter ring is made from brass for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
0.3 to 1.5 density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1 to 5 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.
Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Multi-Resistant Coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.
Nano coating promotes an improved beading effect with water for more efficient cleaning.
Oversized and slim mount helps to reduce the likelihood of vignetting with wide-angle lenses.

    B+W 66-1075248 reviews

58mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it I use this filter with a Nikon D600 and a 50mm f/1.4 lens, mainly so that I can shoot wide open in bright sunlight. It really works, and the variable feature is nice in that I can compose with an exposure reduction of one stop, then quickly and easily ratchet it down to five stops for the shot. This is a high quality filter that threads easily and operates smoothly. One minor complaint, my Nikon lens cap doesn't fit over the filter and the filter didn't come with its own lens cap (as did a B+W 58mm circular polarizing filter that I bought at the same time). So I find myself mounting and un-mounting the filter frequently...it cost enough that I want to protect it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Rate Image Quality I choose filters which I believe will give me top notch image quality and that have excellent construction. B+W filters are my usual choice. The over sized front thread is especially nice on this filter as it helps with preventing vignetting. I leave this filter in place on my Panasonic LX100 when I'm shooting video with the camera. The filter is attached to the lens with a B+W 43-58 step-up ring. I use another B+W step-up ring, 62-67mm, on the front of this filter to protect the filter. I use a Nikon 67mm lens cap to cap off the assembly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome filter, solid investment. Very high-quality, well made and sturdy. My other cheaper ND started showing the vignette when i upgraded to the GH5 with a 2x crop from the GH4's 2.2x. This one is great, solid, and crisp. I film in all sorts of lighting conditions all day, this is the ND workhorse I needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to use but with some difficulties This filter has very high quality glass. The reason for using a variable density filter is that one filter can cover a large range of density rather than having a stack of filters. However, the indexing marks on the filter do not define a measure of filtration and there is some distortion, especially in skies, at the darker settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the Price Not only does this lens take the place of thre or four other ND lenses, it saves time. You don't have to change filters. It adjusts the same as a polarizing filter so you can set the darkening to whatever level you desire to slow the shutter. I've also noticed that it aids my Nikons in auto-focusing on extremely bright objects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Used the filter to get the glossy water in a water fall. Worked great.
