B+W 62mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter
Key Features
  • Variable 0.3-1.5 Neutral Density Filter
  • Reduce Exposure by 1-5 Stops
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Greater Control Over Exposure Settings
The B+W 62mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of 1 to 5 stops. The 0.3 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values.

B+W 66-1075249 Overview

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin, oversized mount which helps to reduce the likelihood to vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. The filter ring is made from brass for durability as well as jamming prevention.

question

Hi. Can this filter be used on a Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH f/2.0 lens? Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
The lens has a 39mm filter thread. This filter would not be compatible. B+W makes the same filter in 52mm. If you use a 39-52mm step up ring, then you will be able to use this filter on the Leica lens. Here is the step up ring: http://bhpho.to/1u0UKvfHere is the filter: http://bhpho.to/1qoJGa9

question

Hi,I was wondering 2 things about this filter:* does it have hard stops ?* what is the size of the front filter ? is it 62mm ? thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
This B+W 62mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC nano Filter has hard stops from +1 to +5 stops. The front thread size on this filter is 67mm; in order to avoid vignetting, the front filter thread is oversized.

question

Does this filter work with an M.Zuiko Olympus F2.8 Pro 12-40mm?And would a step down ring 52-62mm cause vignetting?
Asked by: Rebecca
It will work with that lens. If your using a 52-62mm step up ring from a smaller lens you will be ok. If your using a step down to put a 52mm filter on a 62mm lens then you will most likely have vignetting.

question

Does this filter cause that dreaded hourglass darkening when set at 1.5? I have one that if I get past 1/2 the settings, it gets a distorted discoloration. Thanks
Asked by: Sara L.
I have taken a series of exposures at each stop...bright light, but needed long exposure. I didn't see any hourglass effect.

question

Can this filter fit the Sony 10-18mm wide-angle lens?
Asked by: Jack
That is a very wide angle lens and I would suspect a vignette problem. The answer to that would be to buy a step-up ring and use the 77mm version of filter. Now you have a filter that will adapt to any lens you might have with the appropriate step-up ring. By the way, the 77mm and is often on sale for less than the 62mm.
