The B+W 72mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of 1 to 5 stops. The 0.3 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin, oversized mount which helps to reduce the likelihood to vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. The filter ring is made from brass for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
0.3 to 1.5 density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1 to 5 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.
Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Multi-Resistant Coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.
Nano coating promotes an improved beading effect with water for more efficient cleaning.
Oversized and slim mount helps to reduce the likelihood of vignetting with wide-angle lenses.
Thin brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

72mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for photos and videos I use it on my SEL2470Z for architecture and landscape photography. For photos: During bright day, 5 stops is not enough, wish it would have a few more stops. But photo quality wise, I am very satisfied. The price of the filter results in clear photos without any interference. For videos: I usually shoot in shutter priority mode and this filter definitely helps keeping the aperture more open compared to shooting videos without this nd filter. The quality of the filter is top notch, the finish is great. The only reason for giving this item four stars is that there is vignetting around 16-17mm on my SEL1635Z lens. Other than this, I highly recommend this filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. very nice quality. Test it. It reduces exposure by 5 stop. what i love most is the tightness of adjust ring. not too tight , not too loose. you can adjust the exposure easily.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with it so far I haven't used it much but on the few occasions i have used it i have been pleased with the results. Much better than other variable neural density filters i have tried. There is some vignetting at focal lengths under 24mm which is a bit disappointing but not surprising.
