Functional and perfect, it helps to make the camera more robust.

Added battery power with great form factor

The battery grip for the Lumix G3 and G4 accommodates an additional battery, with solid form factor. Shutter button placement allows for handling camera for great vertical shorts. Function dials and most commonly used buttons included on the battery grip. There is an on/off switch, but no indicator light. It's easy to forget to turn on the grip. When fully attached with 1/4 screw, there is still a bit of play between camera body and grip.

Does the job

Pretty much bought this to make my gh4 look bulkier for photo shoots with clients. Decent quality

The added weight well worth the improved handling

After using this fine accessory I feel lost without it!

Inferior to the quality of the camera

Ergonomically, this grip is great. It really gives my GH4 the extra size, balance, and heft that I was looking for, particularly when shooting video handheld. The shape of it is also quite good, similar to the original grip on the camera. Great form and great to hold on to. Beyond this, however, the inferior construction of the grip is rather apparent. The battery grip lacks the same sturdy feel of the magnesium allow camera body. I can't imagine this thing is weather sealed. I know they claim it is, but there's an undeniably plasticky feel to it, with a noticeable amount of give in the material when squeezed tightly. The connection to the camera could also be improved. While it screws in tight, my grip still has a definite - albeit slight- give to it. There's a bit of a wiggle, if you will, particularly when holding the camera by the battery grip, but even a little bit that you can feel when just shooting horizontally. I think the grip should feel like an extension of the camera, so while this give is slight, and doesn't impede the use of the camera at all, it's an annoyance for something that I wish was perfectly snug with my camera. Maybe I got a less than perfect copy, and all-in-all I think it's a solid product for the price, but I think that I would demand a higher quality if I was doing more photography and portrait work. I mainly shoot video with my GH4, and so the ergonomic and balance advantage of the grip is what I was mainly looking for, not the ability to shoot vertically for long periods of time. If nothing else, the less than perfect construction highlights just how sturdy and well made the GH4 and GH3 are.

It works

Its a battery grip, it holds 1 additional battery and shtter as well as another fn button. Its built solid and fits well with the gh4. A nice touch is that there are built in recesses for the pin cover for both the grip and the camera in the grip so you dont loose them. Makes for great long day shooting or video work

Bad product!

I am a huge fan of panasonic products but this is one of their worst to date. I see a lot of good reviews so I'm bummed that I had a bad experience with these battery grips. I purchased 2 of these for my 2 GH4's. They were purchase about 4 months apart from each other and with under a year, they both broke. Be careful with these. I had multiple instances where I was recording and the battery grip failed on me during a wedding. My camera shut off losing the 3-5 minutes of one particular clip. It turned my clip into an MTS file which I'm sure I could recover with the right (expensive ) software. The battery are very impressive and will last you most of a days work without the grip!

Nice addition to a great camera

If you are use to or prefer the size of full frame cameras this grip gives that feel to the GH4. The added weight and size makes it more stable. Battery life on the GH4 is already great but having 2 batteries is an extra plus.

There is an On/Off switch that enables the function buttons to be used; but- does it also turn on and off the 2nd battery power to the camera? I'd like to turn off the auxiliary function buttons (so as not to press accidentally) but leave ON the additional battery feed.
Asked by: William B.
The buttons located on the battery grip are. Front dial, white balance button, ISO sensitivity, Exposure Compensation, FR Function, Shutter buttons.

Will the GH4 continue to shoot video and change to the second battery without interruption of the recording, when the first battery is depleted?
Asked by: Stephen
Hello Stephen, I can tell you is that Grip works excellent and you learn when you change from one to another, since the camera does not even blink battery. This takes both video and shooting photographs. So it is a very good choice.Regards.
