CobraCrane 6083 overview

  • 1Description

The CobraCrane Two Stage XL Tripod System is a tripod and fluid head support system for CobraCrane I/II and BackPacker cranes with or without extensions. It also supports both the FotoCrane UltraLite and Xtreme. The system features a two-stage aluminum alloy tripod with a center support column, mid-level spreader and fluid head and will support 20 pounds in addition to the optional cranes. CobraCrane recommends leaving the center column completely lowered when using a crane, and raising the tripod's center column only when a camera is mounted to the tripod. The tripod legs feature foot spikes for increased traction on soft ground, and retractable rubber feet for use on interior floors.

The included fluid head provides tilt functionality to available cranes and features die-cast aluminum alloy construction for strength. It also has a built-in bubble level, and includes two pan handles for left- and right-hand operation. The head features a plus 90° to minus 90° tilt range, 360° pan rotation and individual locks for pan and tilt. The heavy duty QR plate accommodates both 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 tie down screws, and you can mount a crane, or camera to the fluid head. The fluid head is removable from the tripod legs, revealing a 3/8"-16 threaded stud, allowing you to mount an available tripod head of your choice.

Camera Tilt
In basic configuration the camera platform stays set, and does not tilt, as you crane up and down. However, mounting the crane on an available suitable tripod with fluid head, allows you to tilt the fluid head and have the cranes camera platform follow the motion of the tilt.

    CobraCrane 6083 reviews

Two Stage XL Tripod System is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect combo for light camera work Bought the CobraCrane II and needed a tripod and head to accompany. This completed the system and we couldn't be happier with the results. Filming with a Nikon D800 and D4 DSLR, with 70-200mm lens, the tripod easily held the camera and the 35lb counterweights. PROs: Perfect for stationary crane shoots. Worked alright for driving shots. The price point is ideal for amateur filming. CONs: Legs had trouble staying extended when tied down to a moving vehicle. Hollow, aluminum handle bent/broke after panning down. Weight may have been too much, though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value, Great Fit for Intended Use We use the crane as the manufacturer intended - for mounting and operating the CobraCrane II. The tripod has a lot of plastic in the head, as expected, but this leaves the mounting of the crane feeling a bit spongy. I expect this tripod to last many years, but we are particularly careful with our gear. I could not describe this tripod as either rugged or truly professional gear, but at it's price, it makes sense.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from CobraCrane system Bought to work with the Cobracrane HD Jib it's probably a little light for bigger (+20lb cameras) and why B&H reccommends heavier bases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod for Cobracrane For the money this tripod is great. Very sturdy and well built. I use it for my Cobracrane 2 and it worked flawlessly.
