The 135mm f/2 Apo Sonnar T* ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount from Zeiss is medium telephoto lens that offers a wide maximum aperture, vibrant color rendition and attractive out-of-focus background. It maximum aperture of f/2 provides substantial light gathering for sharp, high resolution imaging and lovely shallow depth of field photography. A nine-blade circular aperture will offer harmonious background blur when shooting with minimal depth of focus. Special anomalous partial dispersion glass minimizes chromatic aberrations in this apochromat lens and anti-reflective coating reduces reflections and ghosting. It is a compact lens for its focal length and its "floating elements" optical design consists of 11 lens elements in 8 groups with minimal glass-to-air surfaces. The lens design ensures consistent imaging performance throughout the entire focusing range as well as sharpness to the periphery of the image. A rotation angle of 268º enables precise manual focusing and its all-metal barrel provides longevity and protection for its high-quality design.

More DetailsZEISS 1999-676 Overview
A focal length of 135mm provides medium distance telephoto imaging and is also an oft-chosen length for portraiture.
The maximum aperture of f/2 allows for substantial light gathering at faster shutter speeds and offers shallow depth of field.
A nine-blade circular aperture contributes to attractive out-of-focus and transitional areas within the image.
The lens design ensures consistent imaging performance throughout the entire focusing range as well as sharpness to the periphery of the image. Its minimum focusing distance is 2.62' (0.8 m).
An "apochromat" lens built with anomalous partial dispersion glass, it will minimize chromatic aberrations for sharply detailed, high contrast images free of color artifacts.
Anti-reflective lens coatings and a deep-black special lacquer treatment on the element's edges reduce reflections and the negative effects of stray light.
A wide rotation angle of 268º enables precise manual focusing.

question
My Zeiss 135 mm F2 apo sonnar worked beautifully with the Nikon D810 until, suddenly, it seems to have lost electronic contact wit the camera body. The same body continues to work perfectly with the Zeiss Otus 1.4/55. Did anyone have a similar experience? Anything I could do before deciding to send it out for repair? Many thanks!

question
Nikon DX body owners: What subjects do you photograph w. this lens? Have a D7100, don't want it left in the closet.
It is a stunning lens with great color, contrast, and resolution. Great for panoramas, distant landscapes or close subjects with lots of bokeh: Flowers, foliage, bees, frogs, mountain-tops, portraits. Anything you'd use a 200mm lens for as it is about a 202.5mm FF equivalent angle of view. Honestly it going to be a little awkward on DX. The lens outweighs the camera and the combo is front-heavy. Focusing is tough to nail at f/2, a bigger brighter FF viewfinder is easier to use for MF. It is more of a tripod lens but it does not have a tripod collar so make sure you use a solid l-bracket for your D7100.

question
Is the lens suitable for couples portraits such as engagement photos?
Yes for sure if as has been said you have enough room. I love mine.

question
compatible with D600?
Yes, completely compatible with this camera. I use it with both D700 and D810 with no complications. If autofocus is an issue, it is not available with this lens.

question
will this lens work on a D5300 ?
The 135mm ZF.2 lens has CPU contacts and communicates with the camera. You set the aperture from the camera like any other lens. Be sure to set the aperture ring on the lens to f/22 before mounting. This is an excellent lens with a useful focal length that I use to isolate details in the landscape. It is a heavy lens and demands rock steady mounting on a tripod to focus accurately and extract maximum performance.

question
Hello, I am interested in buying the Zeiss 135mm F2 APO. I have read nothing but great reviews of this lens. I photograph wildlife. While the reach is not totally there, the sharpness and bokeh appear to be very good. This is important to me. I am trying to find a lens that will give me similar qualities in sharpness and bokeh as Nikon's 200mm F2. The camera bodies I use are the D750 and D7000. From the lens reviews I break it down to the choice between the Nikon 135 mm F2 DC and the Zeiss 135 F2, APO. I also shoot with the 70-200mm F4, which provides very good results. I will continue to use this lens for longer reach. I am also considering Nikkor 300mm PF in lieu of the Zeiss APO. The 300 mm F2.8 is another option, however it is a heavy lens (for me). My questions are: Does the Zeiss provide similar results as the 200mm F2? The other question: in the lens reviews of the Zeiss, camera bodies used were Nikon's 800, 810E. Would using the D750 and possibly the D7000 result is lesser than results, for any reason - MPs, etc I will be renting the Zeiss before I purchase. Thank you for your time and suggestions/information. Sermet
Hi Sermet. I use this lens with D600 which has a similar sensor to D750. I don't have any other lenses you mention but the 130 APO is great from F 2.0. A truly apochromatic lense -it shows no fringing, and no broken fringing even at f2.0. Tests with 36mp and 24mp crop (like your D7000) by others also show edge to edge great results from f2.0. If you're ok with no AF this lens is a bargain.

question
Is it de-clickable for aperture control in videography?
The ZEISS Classic ZF.2 lenses do not offer the option of changing from click-stop to a continuous iris. This feature is only available on the Milvus ZF.2 series (or the Loxia for the Sony FE system).

question
Does this lens ship with a hood?
Hi Jacob. Yes, the hood was included. What was not included were the papers (Zeiss guarantee, instructions, factory quality test)I take the opportunity to let you know that the lens mount was loose.
