Blue Nessie overview

  • 1Description

The Nessie by Blue is an adaptive USB microphone for desktop recording of vocals, instruments, voiceovers and more. Designed to address common pitfalls of recording, Nessie automatically adapts to the source, applying digital processing combined with a built-in pop filter and internal shockmount. Nessie enhances audio so that you get polished results.

Nessie employs a single custom-tuned condenser capsule with a cardioid pattern. Its adaptive processing, including EQ, de-esser and level control, automatically smoothes and refines audio in real time. Nessie also features a zero-latency headphone output for direct monitoring, which is critical for eliminating distracting delay. Headphone volume and instant mute controls are located directly on the microphone.

Three Recording Modes
Nessie's three flexible recording modes:
1) Optimized for richer vocals
2) More detailed instruments
3) Raw audio for manual post-production editing
Mac, iPad and PC Compatible
Nessie is plug-and-play compatible via USB with both PC and Mac, no drivers required.

    Blue Nessie reviews

Nessie - Adaptive USB Microphone is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great adaptive microphone; solid base I plan to use the Blue Nessie for voiceovers. I haven't used it professionally yet, but I've plugged it in a few times to play with and experiment with, both with my voice and my young children's voices. All of our voices come out beautifully. The automatic EQ and De-essing seem to work very well. I was a little concerned when other reviews pointed out that the neck of the microphone is actually plastic and not metal as it looks. I was worried that the microphone would be somewhat flimsy. However, the plastic neck is thicker and stronger than I expected, and the base is metal and very solid. Also, this mic really is plug-and-play, and it works well with Audacity. I've used this product several times (but not a lot), but I haven't found anything to complain about.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For the price it delivers, but ... After waiting several months for this brand new item to come in and ship, I finally received my Blue Nessie. First impressions, I am pleased with it. Like other Blue products, it worked right out of the box on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS), even if it only lists Windows and Mac operating systems. In fact, my Win7 tablet took longer to find the drivers. As to the onboard processing feature: be realistic with your expectations; this isn't going to perform miracles or work like a piece of equipment that costs thousands. Comparing the Voice Mode to raw, it sounded cleaner and the wave looked smaller, but there were still a few aspirations and spikes. That said, there was less to clean up in post. All in all, the average podcaster will probably love it. People will either love or hate the design and a few may be disappointed with the plastic construction (the neck joint looks like it is metal), but it neither looks nor feels cheap. It has a heavy 4-inch diameter base that keeps it stable. Standing 10 inches tall with a head that pivots about 100 degrees up and down, it's a good table-top mic. A big, conveniently-placed dial on the base controls volume output to the onboard headphone jack. However, input volume has to be controlled through system or audio software settings. The mute button doesn't depress, but is sensitive to touch -- accidentally brushing against it will turn mute on and off. There is deliberate resistance to the switch between raw and the two processing modes, but easy switching between Voice and Music mode. For the price, it delivers -- just don't expect miracles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for the price!! Basically I'm giving this Mic 5 stars because for the price it has everything you need in a basic mic. It's very portable, runs off usb power, has very well done built in effects and is just a great all around mic. The mic really seems to bring out the low end of recordings and if your using a program like sound recorder(windows) or quick time(Mac) to just do a quick recording the 3 choice effects switch is great and works very well. Also you have to give it to B&H as I go this Mic on sale for $AND IT CAME WITH A SET OF STUDIO MONITOR HEADPHONES FOR FREE. You just can't beat that!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for my needs I use this mic for voiceovers for video projects. It is good at filtering out bad background noises. May not be ideal fro a true professional but works for my needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why Nessie? Straight out of the box use. Takes 2 minutes to set up. Built in pop filter, simple and clear sounding vocals. Get it right the first time, no added steps. It reminded me of why I missed recording vocals, sounded awesome on playback. This gives your vocals that you know sound good, the arena to wow you and others!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price. Great service. Had some issues with the microphone. Both B&H and Blue were there to help. Had a new microphone tested personally by Blue back in my hands within 3 days. Who gives you service like that anymore in this messed up country? Quality is great for the price. Built strong. Built in filters make all the difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is just what I was looking for! I wanted a good quality microphone to use for adding sound clips to videos and for my Ring video doorbell cameras. This had all the features I was looking for and I have been very pleased with its performance.
