Wide-Angle Pancake Prime
Begin your wide-angle journey with the E 20mm f/2.8 Lens from Sony, a super compact "pancake" lens designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras where it provides a 30mm equivalent focal length.
Compact Design
  • With its pancake design, the lens only extends 0.8" from the mount, resulting in a compact and lightweight camera system.
  • Portable design makes this a go-to lens for everyday carry and street shooting needs and the wide-angle field of view presents a natural perspective for a variety of shooting applications.
  • Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in available lighting and also contributes to the sleek size and lightweight design.
Optics and Focusing
  • Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
  • The lens uses a rear focusing design that contributes to faster autofocus performance as well as a minimum focus distance of 7.9".
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Sony E 20mm f/2.8 Reviews

Excellent tiny lens

Perfect street lens. I actually use it on my A7IV in crop mode because it's so easy to carry around, which makes me want to take more photos. Image quality is good enough, and AF is fast and accurate on the A7IV.

Turn your a7iii into an iphone

This is a tiny lens with close to full frame coverage. Image quality is about on par with my iPhone 12 Pro 28mm camera, maybe a few stops faster, but not really sharper in dim indoor light on my a7iii. I'm glad I bought this to scratch that fujifilm x100 itch, but if you want to beat a phone, full frame with fast primes is the way to go.

Great lens to keep a Sony a6400 compact and very packable in the smallest bags. This will easily fit in my mountain bike frame bag.

Out preforms all the point and shoot cameras I’ve had and I’ve had quite a few big clean files on the Sony great colour and contrast resolution not quite a 28 mm but reads well and very compact!

My 100v alternative

I'm sure just like everyone else they are looking for a 100v but it's no where to and found.. so this is my alternative to scratch that itch. I really wanted something compact and tiny on my A7iii so that I can carry around and just point and shoot. I currently have ir in the creative style of portrait and I just leave it on jpegs and whatever it shoots that's what I get. It's been an amazing little let's shooting at 30mn on a full frame it's pretty darn close to a 35mm I know you can get a great 35 for the same price maybe even less but I really wanted that size of literally nothing great little lens having tons of fun

Small size, Great pics

This lens is great when paired with the a6600. Works well for landscapes and family photos. The very small size makes it easy for carrying around on nature hikes or in the city.

How does this compare to the 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens? Is it worth getting if I've already got the kit lens?
Asked by: Troy
This is probably one of the best lenses you can get for e-mount. And it's cheap. If you're a very good photographer, you might be able to get away with using the kit lens and still pull good shots. I'm a novice and I shot noticeably better images with this lens. The main draw for me was the size. It's half the height of the kit lens from the camera body, and I can fit my 5100 in my pocket very easily. At first I thought this would be a wide angle lens, then I realized it's 33mm in full frame equivalent. So think of this as a very portable, clear shooting 35mm prime.

question

Will this be an actual 20mm on a Sony A7R?
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens is also not designed for 35mm sensors. Lenses for 35mm work on APS-C but not the other way around.

Does it allow full manual control of the focus?
Asked by: Gerardo
If the camera is set to manual focus, then you would be able to use the focus ring on the front of the Sony E 20mm f/2.8 Lens to focus the lens manually. The lens does not have a built-in aperture ring, so you would have to set the aperture of the lens using the control dials on your camera body.
