The Dot Line GearBox 2 Accessory Cage is for small cameras and DSLRs and can be handheld or tripod mounted. An adapter holds two 15mm rods at the bottom of the cage and features three 1/4" threads underneath for mounting tripods. The adapter attaches to the bottom by four included screws. The rods are 8" long and female-threaded on both ends for further extension. You can attach a follow focus and matte box onto the rods. The cage itself is made up of a cheese plate on top, one on the bottom, and rubber-grip handles on the sides.

The top plate has fourteen 1/4" accessory mounting threads and nine pass-through holes. The bottom plate has five 1/4" threads and also has a cutout for the battery or memory card door that most cameras have on their bottoms -- accordingly, you won't need to remove your camera from the cage to change a battery or card. On the top surface of this bottom plate, where you would attach your camera, you'll find two non-slip pads that will better support the bottom of the camera. A 1/4" screw with a red knob on one end comes included for attaching the camera. The screw fastens from underneath the cage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally Finally there's a well built cage that's affordable and sturdy. I'm primarily a run and gunner and after switching form a camcorder to DLSR, I needed a rig that I could add all my\h accessories to without breaking the bank or that looked cheesy. This rig is pretty solid, customization and is the foundation for my entire rig system now. They don't specify this in the details, but it comes with 2 15 inch rods and the adapter. That means you can attach a follow focus, matte box or anything else your heart desires.. Plenty of screw up top as well. One of my best all-time purchases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Something you need to know about... This is the second review about the Dot Line Gear Cage. I am writing about it because I love this device as much as I love video taping the events I get to tape. Audio, Lights, Camera...if you want to get another call from the client you better have it all. Today there is so much equipment in the inventory, and needless to say, we want it all; but, where do I put it, some of it is too heave for the hot shoe devices out there, oh well I guest I'lll have to do without it, can't afford a cage that the professionals use...Well, Dot Line did it!! See the attached picture I took on 11.11.2014---Also, I'm writing this because I help others from my own experiences, that you become better videographers and photographers!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Why I bought this I bought this cage as an aspiring videographer, mainly because I needed some better way of stabilizing my shots than just hand-holding the DSLR, and I was looking towards the future when i might buy add ons. I must say that this does little to help stabilize your shots, save for slightly spreading out your hands, though it is still better than hand-held DSLR. Depending on the shot, this can more or less be resolved in your editing software. It has lots of options for add-ons, but you can tell that from the picture. The build is sturdy, and feels REALLY great, and compared to a lot of other options on the market, this one has a nice pricetag. overall, 3.8/5. Pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not only for cameras! I got this cage as the foundation for a wireless monitor I could give to a client or director I was shooting for. There are ample 1/4 20s on this rig as well as unthreaded holes that allow you to pass a 1/4 20 through them in order to screw it into an accessory on the other side. The rig has comfortable handles and good symmetry and balance. This was the cheapest and most versatile director monitor solution I have found.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Highly Recommended Piece of Equipment! I purchased my Dot-Line Accessory Cage after almost tearing off the hot shot on my video camera with additional equipment. First it tipped the camera forward with too much weight, then the 'Y' adapter changed the center of gravity with the additional light and audio transmitter. Reading several video magazines I then noticed this device called a 'cage'. However, after pricing cages across the board they were too much for my pocket. Then I came to the Dot-Line accessory cage, in expensive, well made and just want I needed. There was one point and I over came that with the purchase of two Impact Short Adapter Spigots, I did not like the frame resting on the camera and wanted more room for the movement of my figures.Dot-Line has produced a piece of equipment that I am very seriously considering the purchase of two of them for the price. This cage works with either the DSLR or a video camera; I've added more hot shoes and everyone who passes my camera stops and ask questions or adds comments about my professional equipment...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my a7s and canon 24-70 f2.8 For the price there really isnt anything out there that can compete with this cage. My experience with it: I was about to film an interview, my camera was on a tripod but one of the legs was not fully secured (obviously I did not know that), I went to take some air and just heard a huge impact, went to look and there it was, my a7s with canon 24-70 f2.8 on the floor (worst filming experience ever), cam was still on and no damage to the cam or lens (lens filter took a little bump but just a small scratch on it) I have my camera secured on the cage from top (via the camera hotshoe to 1/8 screw) and bottom (via the included 1/8 screw), thanks to that my cam and lens didnt get any damage at all. I can easely say best investment I have ever done. PROS: Of course the price, the thing is well made and lots of 1/8 holes for accesories. Feels very good to the hands, is very comfy (until you add some heavy weight). It is also highly adaptable to almost any camera out there CONS: Of course is not perfect but what is. When you add some weight (8-10 pounds) plastic grip handle rotates a little when moving the camera around (one-handed) no matter how tight the screws are. Conclusion: I would recomend this to anyone that wants to protect their gear with a comfortable multi-porpuse cage and save some money on the way.
