Nikon 25488B overview

  • 1Description

Nikon's D600 DSLR Camera body features a full-frame 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact form-factor. That means the D600 is both slimmer than a traditional HDSLR and more budget-friendly. And with a full-sized sensor also comes a powerful engine; the EXPEED 3 processing system enables features such as 5.5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution. Also, compact as it may be, the D600 still fits in a 3.2" LCD monitor.

The D600 also has other hardy features that allow the camera to stretch for the photographer's needs. Such features include a wide ISO range of 100-6400, which is also expandable to 50-25600. This allows shots to be captured in a variety of lighting situations, from low-light to bright, with minimal image noise. The camera also has 39 focus points for wide-area AF coverage for both stills and HD video capture.

Other ways that the D600 enables the photographer to focus on the job at hand include features like Nikon's well-known metering and onboard intelligence. The camera uses the company's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II for beautiful, high-def images. This metering takes into account brightness, contrast, subject distance, and the scene colors for accurate, balanced photos. The i-TTL flash, auto white balance, subject tracking, and autofocus all come into play as well.

The D600 is an HDSLR, featuring 1080p HD video capture. Selectable frame rates include 30/25/24p at the highest resolution and 30/25/24p at 720p. Other useful features at the photographer's disposal for shooting movies include manual exposure control, full-time AF with face-priority, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, Simultaneous Live View, and then some.

The Nikon D600 is compatible with F-mount NIKKOR interchangeable lenses (both FX and DX-format), giving the photographer a wealth of options. Additionally, the camera can be used with Nikon's WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter for wireless transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. The adapter can even be used for remotely capturing images with the D600 using the compatible app.

Compact Full-Frame HDSLR
Full-frame, high-resolution performance is available in a compact, affordable HDSLR - the D600. The camera's 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor captures every detail with lifelike sharpness. Its EXPEED 3 processing system manages all that data with speed and accuracy, enabling up to 5.5 frames-per-second (fps) continuous shooting at full resolution. The camera also features a fast power-up (0.13 seconds) and minimal shutter release lag (0.052 seconds). And the low-light performance synonymous with Nikon is again proven deserved-shoot crystal clear images from ISO 100 to 6400, expandable down to 50 and up to 25,600 for extreme situations.
Highly Accurate AF System for Superior Sharpness
The D600 has 39 focus points that provide wide-area AF coverage and offer seemingly endless compositional possibilities. The 9 cross-type sensors and 7 center focus points work all the way down to f/8.0 for extended AF functionality with teleconverters and long-reach lenses. When shooting photos or HD video in Live View, Nikon's responsive contrast-detect AF activates for accurate full time auto focusing
Metering and Onboard Intelligence
The D600 delivers consistently beautiful still images and HD videos, thanks to Nikon's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II. Its 2,016 pixel RGB sensor evaluates every scene, taking into account brightness, contrast, subject distance and the scene colors, all within the time it takes to press the shutter release button. That data is then referenced against an onboard image database for consistently accurate exposures, auto white balance, i-TTL flash and subject-tracking autofocus performance
Cinema-Quality HD Video Projects
Shoot 1080p HD videos with selectable frame rates of 30p, 25p or 24p and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression. Bend time with 720p HD at 60p, 50p or 30p for ultra-smooth video playback of fast moving subjects, or create slow-motion footage during post processing. Maintain your creative vision with manual exposure control, full-time AF with face-priority and subject tracking, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, still image exporting, and much more. Enhance all that with the dramatic perspectives and depth-of-field control of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses
Movie Live View & Manual Controls
Before you begin recording you can choose an aperture (in modes A and M only), and you can also choose a Picture Control mode (P, S, A, and M only) or color space. In modes P, S, A, and M, white balance can be set at any time by pressing the WB button and rotating the main command dial. In mode M, ISO sensitivity can be set to values between 100 and Hi 2, with shutter speed values between 1/25 sec and 1/4,000 sec.
Live View Count-Down Display
A countdown will be displayed 30 seconds before live view ends automatically. Depending on shooting conditions, the timer may appear immediately when movie recording begins. Note that regardless of the amount of recording time available, live view will still end automatically when the timer expires. Wait for the internal circuits to cool before resuming movie recording.
Built-In Accessory Terminal
On the opposite side of the camera's dual memory card bays you'll find the various sockets and ports including everything from audio jacks to USB. Under the flap designated "GPS" is the same accessory port used for both the GP-1A GPS Unit and MC-DC2 Remote Release Cord (both sold separately). While there is no 10-pin terminal, the MC-DC2 enables remote firing of select D-SLRs, including this D600, so you won't bump or vibrate the camera when taking photos. The GP-1A geotags your images so you can record latitude, longitude, altitude and time information. Allowing you to plot your images on map software and retrace your steps.
Share Images Easily with the WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter
Using the optional WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter, users can automatically send great pictures to their smartphone or tablet and even remotely capture images from the D600. With its simple app, now when you can't wait to share that great image, you don't have to. Share it to your smartphone or tablet in an instant

    Nikon 25488B reviews

D600 DSLR Camera (Body Only) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 341.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be warned It probably the best Nikon Camera ever made. But too bad the QA is not there. I love this camera but cannot recommend at the moment until all the camera recalled for sensor and possibly vacuum the inside body. To test your camera if having issue like others on the Web. Please have your aperture at 16 or smaller. Set it in landscape mode and point at the sky and shoot. And you too will see how filthy and dirty this camera sensor is. It need to be cleaned and vacuum the dirt inside the camera body. You can clean it by your self, but a few hundreds of click, the new dirt will popped up on the sensor. I returned mine and wait for the new batch with QA before I buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera This camera is an upgrade for me from a d90 and d7000. Images are great up to iso 5000 and if pushed to 6400 still look semi good. Amazing DR and detail. My unit had no oil or dust on sensor but this is something to check for. Focus points are at the center area which do require you to lock focus and recompose if you want to place your subject on the outer edge of the frame. Body feels solid. If you own a d90 and go to this camera you will be amazed if you are coming from a d7000 you will be impressed. You will need more space to save the files. Not as bad as d800 but still large files compared to d90/d7000. This camera is well worth the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from There is something inside my camera I use the camera for landscape photography , macro work & some product shoots. I love the size of the camera and the detail in the sensor. Unfortunately this camera is very dirty. I have had it for 6 months and have had to send it back to Nikon twice. Each time they have fixed it for free but the process takes almost three weeks to a month because they are always waiting on parts. These partricles seem to be components inside the camera that are collecting on the sensor. These are stubborn greasy spots that are not removed by the air blower or by a sensor brush. Nikon does not say anything about the problem, they imply that I do not know how to change a lens! This is my 5th DSLR!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great camera - but wait to buy This is a great camera, everything you have read about it is true. Low light performance is fantastic, the colors and detail are great and I even started using the in camera editing. BUT ... if you can wait to order it, I would ... The dust/oil issue on the sensor is very real. Taking a shot of my house with some sky in the left upper corner, I could see a big spot in the sky. Aperture was f8. There are way more spots on the sensor, but they are not visible if you do not look for them. This was the 21st picture I took with the Camera brand new out of the box So yes, 5 star camera, if not for the dirty sensor. Reduced it to 3 starts for that

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Estoy decepcionado I really feel cheated by this product, oil stains have worsened since I bought the cameras in October, the most recorded of the situation is that I bought two cameras and brought them to South America, and now I have to find a solution that sera: or send them that I cleaning or fix the problem here, is a headache and never thought this would happen. In the past and had several Nikon and the D80 and D5100 but has never been this serious problem, I am out of the country where bought and oil stains are really dire and Chunks make my photos if it is a very REAL.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Camera - Not Recommended All the good things other reviews say are valid. However, I would not buy this camera body again. I wish I had bought the D800. I am a landscape and nataure photographer. There are two reasons why I cannot recommend the D600:(1) the bracket function is limited to three exposures making it worthless for my useage, and (2) the dust/oil spot problem is real. I have grey circles noticeable in the sky that appear to be too large to be dust. I suspect it is, in fact, oil. I have used Nikon cameras since 1952. I have owned a 990 and D100, and now have a D2X, D300s and D600. The D600 is the first Nikon camera I have been dissatisfied with. I am truly sorry I bought the D600.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from low light wonder I take family portraits indoor and outdoor and some sports only oudoor. I found the camera to be best i have seen in low light, high iso performance. The ergonomics of is great for the positioning of the buttons and very usfull U1 and U2 settings option. The grip seems a bit too small for my large hands. The battery grip should help that. Now, I noticed a slight hesitation in all the autofocus modes especially in low light. But the Autofocus accuracy is great. So slow but acurate autofocus may be a profblem for few for action and quick draw situations. Other best part about the camera is the top notch WB performance, better than any I have seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Full Frame Camera! I upgraded from a D90 and the results far exceeded my expectations. Prior to purchasing the D600 I purchased the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 lens for my D90 and felt the quality at that point was a huge step up. Now that I purchased the D600, this step up is even greater than my lens upgrade was. I am amazed with the quality of images that the D600 produces. The learning curve is a piece of cake if you are already a Nikon owner. The camera size is not a lot bigger than my D90 and that was a huge positive factor for me. There is a ton of quality in this somewhat compact body. I can't imagine living without a D600 at this point in my life.
