Harmless from Image-Line is a virtual synthesizer plug-in that features a subtractive-style interface, yet is powered by an additive synthesis engine. It is compatible with Windows only and can be run standalone or within your VST compatible host software.
Harmless' additive engine works by filtering timbres before they are generated, instead of filtering them afterward as a subtractive synth would. This method lends itself to a degree of fine control that wouldn't be possible through classic subtractive synthesis. Filtering and phasing using unusual shapes and slopes is applied prior to tone generation, allowing for timbres that would not be possible through common synthesis methods.
Harmless is designed to be straightforward and easy to use. There are no tabs or hidden controls. There are no complicated multipoint envelopes and all of the features are color-grouped and visible at once. All of Harmless' 100 parameters are laid out in plain sight across the GUI, ready to be tweaked or automated.
Effects include chorus, delay, reverb, multiband compressor/limiter powered by Maximus. It also inherited the powerful unison from Sytrus.
Unusual features such as the ability to link the phaser's output to specific frequencies or linking the phaser's width to the velocity, or the pitch to the filter's envelope
Powered by an optimized, multi-threaded additive engine, CPU usage is comparable to subtractive synthesizers, especially for low-passed timbres
