Included here is a large-aperture Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube assembly, the iconic NexStar+ GoTo computer hand controller with a 40,000+-object database and alignment assistance, the solid Advanced VX motorized mount, plus an assortment of accessories to get you set up and observing right out of the box.

  • C8-A-XLT CG-5 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope (OTA Only)

Striking a comfortable balance between power and portability, the Celestron C8-A-XLT CG-5 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope is an ideal choice for observing objects within or beyond our solar system. It features a Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system consisting of a corrector plate, a spherical primary mirror, and a secondary mirror that work together to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations. These corrections result in crisp and clear high-resolution images with accurate color representation, without distortion—especially at the edges. Complementing the optical system is the proprietary StarBright XLT optical coating system, which improves light transmission and reflectivity across the entire visual spectrum.

The optical tube is outfitted with a standard 1.25" visual back to make it easier to find eyepieces, accessories, and imaging gear. For visual observations, a 1.25" star diagonal is included along with a 25mm eyepiece that yields 81x magnification. The C8-A-XLT is offered here without a mount or tripod for users who already have a reliable support system and are looking to upgrade or add to their existing gear, but comes with a standard-sized CG-5 dovetail plate that is compatible with Vixen-style saddles.

    Optical Tube
    • 8" (203mm) aperture
    • f/10 focal ratio
    • 2032mm effective focal length
    • Schmidt-Cassegrain catadioptric optical design
    • StarBright XLT optical coatings
    • Resolution: 0.69 arcsec (Rayleigh); 0.57 arcsec (Dawes)
    • Secondary mirror obstruction: 2.5" (69mm); 31% by diameter; 9.77% by area
    StarBright XLT System
    • Maximizes light transmission through optical path
    • Improves color rendition, contrast, sharpness, resolution, and brightness
    • Broad-band system provides flat wavelength transmission across the entire visual spectrum
    • Multi-layer mirror coatings with layers of aluminum, SiO2 (quartz), and TiO2 (titanium dioxide)
    • Multi-layer anti-reflective corrector plate coatings with layers of MgF2 (magnesium fluoride) and HfO2 (hafnium dioxide). Hafnium has a wider band-pass than the commonly used titanium
    • High-transmission water white glass corrector plate limits light loss due to internal absorption
    Mounting
    • OTA only; mount and tripod required for proper use
    • CG-5 (Vixen-style) dovetail plate for compatible saddles
    • OTA weight: 12.5 pounds
    Included Accessories

    • 90° angle puts head in comfortable viewing position
    • Threaded for direct connection to OTA without the need for the visual back
    • 1.25" snout and eyepiece/accessory holder
    • Star diagonal corrects image horizontally, but not vertically
      Finderscope:
    • Low 6x magnification preserves wide field of view to more easily find alignment or guide stars

  • Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount

Engineered and optimized for astrophotography with mid-sized optical tube assemblies, the Celestron Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount delivers the performance required for clear images through the use of dual-axis low-cog DC servo motors and backlash compensation. Added to this are encoders on the motors and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) which help to improve positioning and tracking precision and ensure your target object stays centered for long-exposure photography techniques. Supporting the mount is a large 2" stainless steel tripod that has a wide stance for stability on most terrain, and a center tray that holds 1.25" and 2" eyepieces and accessories and acts as a leg-lock to further stabilize while helping to minimize vibrations.

The brain of the system is the NexStar+ computer controller which is equipped with a database of over 40,000 objects, including the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and the complete Messier catalog; it can also be programmed with up 100 custom user-defined objects with filters to create custom object lists. Its intuitive menu-driven user interface makes observing the heavens fast and easy; features such as guided tours, extended information on 200 popular objects, and multiple alignment options make the NexStar+ controller an invaluable tool to new users and experienced star-gazers alike.

Advanced VX 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo EQ Telescope is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely poor customer support from Celestron I bout this for Christmas this year, and got it set up and working well for about a week. Then suddenly, as I set it up one night, I got an error on the handcontroller saying something like Invalid Pkg 080, which left the mount completely useless. No tracking , no guiding, no alignment. Upon searching the internet, I find that the fix is to flash the ROM. Really, the thing is a week old, and the software corrupted already? Bad. What's worse is that I have the new USB hand controller that the product write-ups all say is so much easier, but I cannot get it to link with any computer, and I have tried several PC's and a Mac. But wait, there's more. I can't figure out how to get any contact from Celestron. There is no phone number on their website, just a chat thing, which after using, I recieved an automated reply telling me that they would contact me thru email soon....two days have gone by, my telescope is still DOA, and I've heard nothing from Celestron. Starting to really regret having chosen them for this purchase, and hoping that this bad review gets someone's attention, but if all it does is warn others away, I guess some good will come from it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from telescope of a lifetime I have wanted a high end telescope for as long as I can remember. This one has all the features I looked for, Compact, computer controlled, easy to use. I am still learning how to use all of the features but so far it has been exactly what I have been looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely happy with this telescope The mount and telescope are quite impressive, serious stuff. The packaging is excellent. The instructions for assembly are easy to follow, but the alignment process is a bit difficult, it took me about 2 hours to get it right the first time. The whole setup is pretty heavy, but I can move the mount and tripod together for a few meters (to the backyard) with no problems. The alignment of the secondary was spot on in my case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent right out of the box! This OTA is impressive all on it's own. Without utilizing the automation of the moun, I was easily able to see moons and cloud formations of/on Jupiter. Also the Orion Nebula was easily visable. Not impressed? I have horriable light polution, and Jupiter was spotted through tree branches. I have since setup the Polar Alignment Scope (sold seperate) and am anxiously awaiting another clear viewing night so I can utilize the VX mount.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not perfect It really is a marvelous piece of engineering and I am satisfied, I had to change the motor because a contact was defective but I love it!
