Ideal for beginner and intermediate amateur astronomers, the Celestron Advanced VX 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo EQ Telescope provides users with a complete platform for making detailed observations of the moon and planets, with the ability to reach out beyond our solar system to view galaxies, nebulae, stars, clusters, and thousands of objects at the touch of a button. Included here is a large-aperture Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube assembly, the iconic NexStar+ GoTo computer hand controller with a 40,000+ object database and alignment assistance, the solid Advanced VX motorized mount, plus an assortment of accessories to get you set up and observing right out of the box.

  • C9 1/4-A XLT 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope (OTA Only, CG-5 Dovetail)

Outfitted with a large aperture, long effective focal length, and their proprietary StarBright XLT optical coatings, the Celestron C9 1/4-A XLT 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope provides power and portability. The coating system consists of anti-reflection coatings on the corrector plate, highly reflective index mirror coatings, and low-absorption/high-transmission glass components to ensure that the maximum amount of light is gathered and transmitted to the user's eye. This system ensures bright and clear high-contrast images with accurate color rendition across the entire visual spectrum without visible distortion at the edges. Celestron includes a standard 1.25" visual back to accept eyepieces and accessories such as the 25mm eyepiece and 90° diagonal supplied with the optical tube assembly (OTA). This OTA is offered here without a mount or tripod for users who already have a support system. Just ensure the mount's payload capacity exceeds 20 pounds to safely carry the weight, and has a Vixen-style saddle to match the OTA's CG-5 mounting plate.

  • Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount

Engineered and optimized for astrophotography with mid-sized optical tube assemblies, the Celestron Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount delivers the performance required for clear images through the use of dual-axis low-cog DC servo motors and backlash compensation. Added to this are encoders on the motors and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) which help to improve positioning and tracking precision and ensure your target object stays centered for long-exposure photography techniques. Supporting the mount is a large 2" stainless steel tripod that has a wide stance for stability on most terrain, and a center tray that holds 1.25" and 2" eyepieces and accessories and acts as a leg-lock to further stabilize while helping to minimize vibrations.

The brain of the system is the NexStar+ computer controller which is equipped with a database of over 40,000 objects, including the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and the complete Messier catalog; it can also be programmed with up 100 custom user-defined objects with filters to create custom object lists. Its intuitive menu-driven user interface makes observing the heavens fast and easy; features such as guided tours, extended information on 200 popular objects, and multiple alignment options make the NexStar+ controller an invaluable tool to new users and experienced star-gazers alike.

Advanced VX 9.25" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo EQ Telescope is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Nice! This is actually my first telescope and was a go big or go home kind of purchase. Last night was actually only my second use of it but I'll provide some initial thoughts. I'll start off by saying it's pretty sweet. This review might actually help someone with no experience with a telescope because that's exactly the angle I'm coming from. Size: It's much bigger than I had anticipated...I knew it was going to be big but seriously, you need a little room to store it unless you plan to take it apart which I do anyways. I usually take the scope itself off of the tripod and take the counterweights off so it isn't stressed sitting idle. That makes it pretty much a three piece transport. Each piece us under 20 pounds so it is doable for one person to move around. Also definitely going to draw some attention from neighbors if you are using it around other houses. Setup: Still working out the kinks on the setup. The terminology is new to me so it feels like the directions were a little all over the place referring you to the back of the manual for parts of the config but you can probably figure it out if you've done it before with another scope. If you don't know the terminology, you need to do a bit of cross referencing the diagrams to make sure the they are talking about the same thing...little things like lock vs. lever. It seems like the setup will end up being pretty quick (like 10-15 minutes) once I know what I'm doing. Eyepiece: comes with a 25mm eyepiece which I quickly learned is not enough to really do too much in my opinion. The moon came out pretty well with it but I would recommend buying more eyepieces right off the bat if you don't have any others. I ended up getting the kit that has the 5 pieces, 2x barlow and the filters. That's was a nice addition to the kit to help get started. Presets: The presets are pretty cool. I don't quite have the alignment stuff worked out yet but it's obvious that once everything is sorted out that it will work spot on as intended. It seems like it's consistently off in one direction which leads me to believe it's just my inexperience with the setup, not the scope itself. Power Adapter: It only comes with a car adapter which is not terribly long so if you plan to use this at your house, get the separate power adapter for an additional bit of money. it's a separate purchase but was essential for me to be able to get in the middle of my back yard instead of being stuck near my carport/next to the house. Tripod/Mount: I think you could probably lift a house up on this thing if you had to. It is way more sturdy/solid than any kind of camera tripod I've ever seen. Fully extended, it's just a little bit too big to get through a standard doorway so you need to close it down or be careful rotating it through the door. There was something in the instructions about it having a bubble level but I haven't been able to find it. I actually don't think it exists on this model but the instructions are written in a way that it seems to cover most of the models they sell. I read somewhere that the level isn't important anyway if you align properly anyways but again, I'm new to this so do your own research on that. Computer: Tons of presets that will help get you around once properly aligned. It seems to be smart enough to know not to suggest things that you won't be able to see like stuff that's below you. However, it won't know that your house is in the way. There's a few different modes for alignment including one that allows you to pick daytime objects like the moon. That's nice if you are trying to get set up before it gets dark. Overall: As a beginner, I've watched some videos about the setup and use of other scopes and am definitely aware this thing is a step ahead of the rest. I'd highly recommend it. Previously mentioned this but get more eyepieces if you don't have already them and also a power adapter for regular wall power.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good & Bad: Works for some purposes not for others If you are reading this review, chances are you are interested in purchasing this product or others like it. You are either a beginner astrophotographer/astronomer or an experience one. If you are just beginning and looking for a package, this package is ideal ONLY (in my humble opinion) for astrogazing/visual use and NOT for astrophotography. The reason for that has to do with the weight of the OTA (Optical Tube assembly referring to the actual telescope unit the Celestron SCT 9.25 inch) and the weight carrying capacity of the mount that is grouped with this purchase. The Advanced AVX from Celestron is a great mount but would not give you ideal results for astrophotography because its maximum weight capacity is (from my experience and reading manual and online experiences) between 30-35 lbs. Say for the sake of convenience to round to 30 lbs. If you want to take a picture of a galaxy, or star cluster the very least amount of slew time you need in a relatively dark sky about 30 s to a minute. At that times, unless your polar alignment is accurateand your mount is spotless you will get trailing. Having the Schmidt Cassegerain 9.25 which is by itself some 20 lbs. Add to that a DSLR camera, connecting mounts, an auto guider, and other equipments and cables and you are looking at very close to if not passed 30 lbs. It seems to me from my limited experience that you need your mount to have at least twice the weight or payload capacity of the weight of your OTA to be able to get painless non-autogided images. Past that point the images need auto guiding but if the OTA is too heavy the mount would skip movement and not function well. In short, I do NOT recommend buying this combination. Both components work BEAUTIFULLY but either buy the 9.25 with CGEM dx mount or an 8 inch with Advanced VX. This combination is not IDEAL for imaging and that is something that you would not know unless you have experience.
