Celestron Advanced VX overview

  • 1Description

Celestron paired a Go-To mount with a large-aperture OTA to produce this Advanced VX 6 150mm f/5 Go-To Reflector Telescope. Pairing the fully motorized and computer-controlled mount with a Newtonian reflector scope produces an observation platform optimized for deep-space viewing and astroimaging. Its optical tube features a 6" (150mm) parabolic mirror to draw in copious amounts of light — even light from distant deep space objects like binary stars, galaxies, and nebulae. Its fast f/5 focal ratio allows for short exposure times, which means more images can be captured for later stacking in post. A large-drawtube 2" focuser allows the use of larger wide-field eyepieces or large imaging sensor cameras to be used without vignetting, and an included reducer adapter lets user install smaller 1.25" accessories like the included eyepiece.

The OTA attaches to the motorized equatorial mount via a Vixen-style dovetail plate and saddle for fast assembly and breakdown. Outfitted with dual-axis low-cog DC servo motors and digital encoders, the mount head moves and tracks objects with high-precision and almost no vibrations to ensure clear views. Its wide 7-77° latitude range and head design allows it to track below the meridian line to allow you to start observing earlier if its set up on a hill or deck, and will clear the motors to avoid having to perform a meridian flip when it's tracking low in the sky. Guiding the mount is the NexStar+ computer hand controller. Packed with more than 40,000 objects, it has multiple alignment procedures to get users observing faster, with multiple automatic tracking rates to accurately follow fast-moving close objects like the Moon and planets and slower deep space celestial bodies. With features such as user-defined objects, customizable guided tours, and expanded info on over 500 objects in its database even novice users can quickly learn about the Universe.

    Celestron Advanced VX reviews

    Advanced VX 6 150mm f/5 Go-To Reflector Telescope is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite a deal! I was planning on buying an Advanced VX mount to replace my 5SE ALT-AZ mount. When I saw I could get a 6 Newt for just a bit more than buying the mount alone it was a no brainer! I put my 5SE on the VX Mount and the Newt on my old mount. Both work perfectly. The VX mount has blown me away. Easy to polar align and my goto's have been spot on! The Newt is a great visual scope. Astrophotography won't work with it unless you're doing afocal AP. Not enough back focus for a DSLR but that's very common with a Newt and I knew that before I bought it. Only had 4 nights to play so far but I'm super happy. I have my 5SE on the VX snapping pics while I observe with the Newt. Quite a deal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have Sturdy Mount & Telescope! I was originally looking for the AVX mount by itself but when I saw the 6 inch Newtonian Reflector for an extra $, I was hooked! One night my neighbor & fellow astronomer Steve Franks took this reflector out & we saw the most amazing views of the Orion Nebula, Pleiades and many other deep sky objects. The Advanced VX mount is a rock solid, heavy duty mount for the price. The tracking is precise and objects are almost always centered in the eyepiece when using a two star alignment with 2 or 3 more calibration stars. The built in socket for the polar finder scope is a huge bonus as well for aligning to Polaris, the North Star.I also use my Celestron 127mm Maksutov OTA on this mount for some awesome astrophotography captures of Jupiter, Saturn & the Moon. The best purchase I have made & this Advanced VX 6 with the 6 inch Newt will last a long time with me!If you're thinking about getting this package, push the add to cart button you won't regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Most Excellent Birthday Present! My wife Stacy, bought this for me as a birthday present so I could delve way deeper into astrophotography. We shopped for several weeks until picking this set. As my first foray into real' telescopes I am very happy with the purchase! I'm still learning but have used it several times so far (weather!) and really like the ease of use after setup. As this is all still pretty new to me, coming from DSLR use, I have been learning much from all the videos on YouTube that have greatly helped with not only set up but in demystifying using any telescope! It is pretty heavy when all put together but in that weight is great stability. The VX head works great and I think this is a great first serious powered telescope kit! I also purchased the power brick that should actually be part of the kit but is well worth the expense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing value for a GoTo telescope I haven't had much experience with this thing yet, since it's been cloudy for weeks (like always happens when you buy a telescope). But last night I finally got to put it through its paces, and I was impressed. You can't rush through the alignment phase, but once you've got it set up, it delivers sight after sight right in the center of the eyepiece (well, the full moon was centered on the lunar limb; perhaps this was intentional?). Control is smooth, and the Sky Tour mode picks is a good short list of stuff to see. Just for fun I tried some unguided prime-focus astrophotography, and results were encouraging. Most of the 30-second subs had perfect stars, and this was with the scope terribly out of balance, as I discovered when I was taking it down. Certainly an improvement over my old SVP. The mount seems heavy and rock-solid to me. In fact, the included counterweight is too heavy for my 80mm APO. Fortunately, the smaller counterweight that came with that scope fits on the counterweight shaft. The VX also compatible with the SkyView Pro polar alignment scope. The 6 Newtonian OTA is quite good, considering it's almost free with the purchase of the mount. Its one weak spot is a lousy focuser that rocks back and forth in the drawtube when you adjust focus, making precise collimation impossible. A neat feature of the focuser, however, is that you can attach a T-ring to it, and shoot at prime focus with a DSLR. Not many Newts have enough backfocus, but this one does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product I'm a newbie to Telescopoes (apart from when I was a kid) and after much research I heard the EQ mount with the 6 Newtonian OTA was a good package. It packed within a lot of boxes though some of the polystyrene in the package was broken upon arrival and the OTA was able to move around however there was no damage. Also this was shipped to Australia so considering the amount of carriers it passed through this is not bad.Overall the Product is great, the ordering process was seamless and the shipping from US to Australia was quick (It did cost $ for shipping), I received the scope within 4 days of it leaving the US warehouse. I would receommend this product, I have had no issues so far and the the sevice from B&H was great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A wonderful mount, plus a good versatile scope! I used this for backyard astronomy. So far after 2 months, I find it a very good upgrade from my Celestron Nexstar 4SE. For Deepky, its f/5 - I used it with the Canon DSLR. For Planetary imaging - I used it with a barlow (up to 3x), and a Celestron Skyris 132c camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great scope in my opinion I got this because I want to expand into astrophotography and so far I like it a lot. There is a learning curve as with all new equipment but I'm getting there. I'm using a Canon Rebel T1i as my learning camera. Now if the weather would cooperate I would be progressing faster but that is another issue altogether. There is one thing I think would make the entire purchase better. The scope came with a hand warmer / cell phone charger as an added bonus which is nice but as a suggestion it would be more useful to include the AC power adapter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scope meh, GOOD Mount I purchased this setup mainly for the mount. The scope is ok but I don't use it to much. The mount in my opinion is awesome. In the past I have spent more than half of my observation time trying to get a decent alignment and now I spend less than 30 min setting up the mount. Mount is heavy but very sturdy. I Like IT alot!!
