Nikon AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D Overview

One of the most popular focal lengths, the AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D from Nikon is a comfortable wide-angle prime featuring a bright f/2 maximum aperture along with a compact, lightweight form factor. The slightly-wider-than-normal field of view along with the f/2 design excels in a variety of shooting conditions, ranging from landscape to street photography. A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements, and reduces lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy when working in bright and backlit conditions. Also, a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Wide-angle prime lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture offers depth of field control for working with selective focus techniques.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Nikon AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D Reviews

Great for walking around with single lens

Great lens especially when you consider the price. Of course, it has its limitations, but its biggest advantage is definitely its small size and light weight - it is great for walking and tourist photography during the day. It doesn't shine at night and that's the only reason I'm considering a more modern solution. In any case, I would not give it up.

Great Overall Performer!

This is a little gem of a lens. My example never gets completely crisp in the corners, even stopped down. Manual focus feel isn't as nice as the Ai or Ai-S lenses. But I never complain about it, because offsetting those minor weaknesses are great color rendition, micro-contrast, and sharpness throughout much of the FX frame; standing up well to the sensor on my D850. Subject isolation at wider apertures is superb, with pleasing bokeh for a wide-ish lens. Size and weight are perfect, and leaving the HN-3 hood attached doesn't add too much to the size or difficulty with using the front cap. This kind of performance at this price makes it a steal, and adds up to 5 stars in my book! Two shots, one at f/11 and one at f/2.

Love it!

The copy I got is perfect. Auto focus is fast and accurate, and manual is super nice too! Very sharp, with no downside that I can see. Small, cool looking, and feels like nice old school metal. I find it about perfect for a gathering, where you want to photograph the ambience, with whole to nearly whole bodies. If you want flattering closeups that concentrate more on individuals than the setting, I find an 85mm to be a perfect compliment. This is more for getting the feel of a scene. Nature can be good too, where you want a mixture of near and far. Really nice lens, one of my favorites!

Sorry I waited so long to pick this one up.  Its light and compact (refreshing after hauling around a heavy lens) and has great image quality.  Theres a reason this lens is still in the Nikon line-up!

I use this lens because its smaller and lighter than my other prime Nikon lenses. It's worth it for me to give up the extra f stop for the smaller size.

This is the lens I leave on my camera as a default and use it for probably 80% of my pictures. Its small and lightweight, perfect for a walk around setup. It's also sharp with accurate autofocus.
