The ikan USB Control Grip enables remote control for Canon EOS DSLRs and EF lenses. In addition to video record start/stop, the grip's remote functions include focus, iris and live view controls. The control grip interfaces with the camera via USB and is compatible with most Canon DSLRs, including the 5D Mark II and the 5D Mark III. The 1/4"-20 threaded sockets on the top and bottom makes it easy to integrate the grip with a camera support rig. The grip is powered by two AA batteries.

Note: Not compatible with the 7D.

Record Start/Stop
A button on the side of the grip activates video record start/stop. Press the button once to start recording. Hold the button for half a second longer to stop recording.
Focus and Iris Control
When used with a compatible, auto focus lens the control grip can adjust focus – near and far – in three steps: fast, slow and normal speed. Alternately, when used with an auto iris lens, the control grip can open and close the lens aperture.
Live View Control
In addition to turning Live View mode on and off, the control grip can also zoom the display.
Top and Bottom 1/4"-20 Threaded Sockets
The 1/4"-20 threaded sockets on the top and bottom of this device are designed for ease of mounting. Although, ikan cautions that they are not intended to support a weighty camera rig.
Automatic Shutdown
To conserve power, the USB Control Grip will automatically shut down after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Indicator Lights
Three LED lights on the face of the control unit indicate how many steps focus will be advanced when the "Near" or "Far" buttons are pressed. Two additional LEDs indicate whether the device is in "Focus" or "Aperture" mode.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from On the Right Track But... I was excited to get the Ikan USB Control Grip BUT, it's built like a cheap plastic gismo. I put it on my shoulder rig and was hugely disappointed to realize it won't last a day on the run with me built to fail. Not only that the record button is positioned right under the palm of my hand, that is on the outside of the handle, nowhere near where the thumb naturally rest. That's just crazy! Also if this does get a redesign and modification, which I believe it deserves, the record button needs to be tactile and at least the size of a small finger print not the current nail clipping size it is not to mention placement consideration. My motto is, buy it once buy it for life! Ikan needs to build this product with that in mind. I'd rather pay triple than have an important piece of equipment fail, repeatedly. The Ikan USB Control Grip is on the right track but desperately needs to return to the drawing board.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Video Cont does not work With Canon 7D I purchased this device to use as a remote control for My Canon 7D in the video mode. It did not work. I contacted the manufacturer and his support techs tried to determine what was wrong and they found that the unit they had would not work on their Canon 7D in the video mode. Because I only need to use the remote in the video mode with my Canon 7D I have not tested any other functions. I am returning the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for video! I purchased the item for the sole use of remote control of a Canon 7D in the video mode. The manufacturer has been working with me on my problems and he has not been able to get the item to work. He has a 7D at his facility and he is having the same problems I am having. Not sure about the still camera functions as they were of no interest to me. The manufacturer indicates that he believes it works on other cameras in the video mode but that does me no good. I am sending the unit back.
