Vidpro XM-55 Overview

The Vidpro XM-55 is a battery-powered shotgun microphone with a complete bundle of accessories designed for indoor and outdoor recording with HDSLRs, camcorders, field recorders, handheld recorders, and more. The supercardioid polar pattern yields enhanced off-axis signal rejection and focused frontal pickup while the 100 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response provides tonality tailored for intelligible voice reproduction.

The XM-55 includes an adjustable shockmount, a stand mount, and thread adapters to accommodate mounting to a mic stand, boompole, tripod, or camera shoe. It also includes a furry windshield for outdoor shoots, a foam windscreen for indoor recording, and a cushioned hand grip for convenient handheld operation.

In assembling the kit, where does the battery go? It came without instructions.
Asked by: steve
Grip your hands around the top and lower portions of the microphone and twist the bottom portion to the left to unscrew the bottom portion and expose the battery compartment. Install the battery and then screw the bottom back onto the mic. Slide the power button on, and a red light will appear to signify that the mic is powered.

question

What do you think is better quality mic, price is olmost the same: this mic or the rode mic go on camera ?http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1012003-REG/rode_videomic_go_videomic_go_on_camera_shotgun.html
Asked by: Noel
This mic is very sensitive and picks up lots of background noise, it also has it's own static which is very bad, I'm planning to get a new one. It is a good starter kit and better mic than the built in one in a DSLR but rode mic would probably be the same quality but hard to say since I haven't used one in years.

question

How does this mic compare to the Rode VideoMicro ($59)?On a boom pole and mounted on the camera?
Asked by: Josh C.
The XM-55 is a traditional shotgun mic with higher directionality than the VideoMicro. Will be compatible with more devices as it is able to be battery powered, and will ship with mounting hardware and cables to connect to most cameras and recorders.

question

what does the 3rd position of the on/off switch do?
Asked by: Anonymous
The XM 55 switch, in addition to power offers a low cut filter setting. This setting will reduce the low frequency information received by the mic and is effective in reducing some low frequency room noise such as AC rumble, light wind and popping P sounds from speech.

question

Would I be better off using the tascam Dr 40 on a shockmount or is this mic better for short films and event recording
Asked by: Anthony P.
The Vidpro XM-55 is best suited for capturing dialogue. The Tascam Dr-40 features a stereo mic, so is better for picking up bigger areas and ambient audio. Either items would work for you, based on your specific needs.
