    ASUS S550CA Reviews

VivoBook S550CA-DS51T 15.6" Multi-Touch Laptop Computer (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice mid range laptop Love the fact that you can toggle back and forth between the Windows screen and the desktop screen. Love tnat I can use the touch screen, my mouse or the pad. Dislike how hidden Windows 8 has put everything. Easy once you know how to find stuff. I finally dragged my icon for the control panel onto my desktop so I can find it quickly. Hate the fingerprints all over my screen, guess that is the downside of a touch screen. Not as fast as I had hoped. Perhaps that is because Windows8 has so much junk (games etc) with it. Perhaps with some tweeks I can speed it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality and Value I love ASUS. They are quality machines without the Sony price tag. The rest competition are flimsy junk in this price range of laptops. It does not have a discreet GPU or a maxed out CPU but you don't pay for that, so it's not for avid gamers. It does multitask and web surf very well. The VivoBooks are nice to but this is the least expensive entry level i5 VivoBook with a CD/DVD rom drive. Screen is glass so be careful but it does come with a 1 year accident protection straight from ASUS. The aluminum shell is awesome but the cover does show fingerprints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Ultrabook I purchased the S550CA for my daughter (young teenager) as her first laptop computer for general use - schoolwork, social media, internet, gaming, etc. My profession is a Sr. EE specializing in embedded systems design for over 23years. I have built many tower systems from the ground up to deliver engineering and simulation power. This is the first pre-configured computer I have ever purchased. I am very impressed with the speed, performance, display, and overall GUI. Considering purchasing another for myself as I have to fight her for time on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected This machine is the second Asus notebook machine I've owned, very impressed with the quality of their products. This machine has a more robust Bluetooth 4.0 interface, not that I really do much with Bluetooth but a mouse that seemed to drop its BT 3.0 connection at arbitrary and frequent intervals works flawlessly with this machine. I installed a free Classic Shell program from sourceforge.net to get a reasonable facsimile of a Windows 7 desktop. The touch screen works well but the color rendition isn't quite as good as the other Asus notebook I have, but it's OK. The battery is small but lasts about 4 hours, that's OK too. Overall the machine is very good, the 2 second startup time is really nice. I would recommend this notebook without reservation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VivoBook S550CA I am a student and needed a laptop that would be reliable, light weight, and easy to maneuver and this is laptop definitely was it. I needed a laptop that I could pretty much take everywhere with me and with the 3 year drop and spill warranty I never worry about where I am taking it. This computer is fast, light weight (which as stated was a major requirement), easy to maneuver around (since I was new to windows 8 it made it very easy to adjust to the changes), and it comes with a lot of apps that are necessary for students which makes acclimating to the laptop that much easier. So far I have not found anything about this laptop that I do not like or that is wrong with it. The way in which the hard drives are set up is kind of weird since the solid state is used only for programs pre-installed but other than that I love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but keep in mind... I had my eye on this item from the Asus site for weeks, and bounced back and forth comparing to other items and brands. All around this is a nice product, but when I saw a sale I jumped a tad too soon. I couldn't make up my mind between a tablet, or something that split, where the touchscreen would be greatly used. On this item, I personally doubt I will need the touchscreen often.--Just something to think about.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good entry level ultrabook Good battery life, good processing speed, and quick start up from sleep. Touchscreen makes browsing the internet convienient, although, it has a few hiccups from when trying to scroll up and down on certain web pages. My biggest complaint would be the small keys on the keyboard. Mostly used for college school work and browsing. Overall, a good value for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the price This is for my wife to use for email and facebook. And a toy for me. My wife and I actually like the keyboard, I know some don't. I would agree with other post about the screen resolution, if you are looking for better resolution, this is not for you. The resolution if fine for our needs. Overall for the price I think it is a great laptop.
