PocketWizard PlusX Overview

The PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver is a versatile radio trigger that features a wealth of functionality within a simple-to-use and intuitive design. This transceiver offers 10 standard channels from which to use, and navigation between these channels is easily controlled by a backlit channel dial. These 10 channels are fully backward-compatible with all other PocketWizard radios and PocketWizard-enabled devices for maximum efficiency with existing radio setups. Contributing to its functional abilities, the PlusX also features intelligent Auto-Sensing technology, which allows the device to instantly fluctuate between transmitter and receiver duties. Auto-relay is also supported in order to promote a completely remote workflow.

The PlusX design revolves around an internal antenna and side-profile design that contribute to overall durability and a streamlined appearance. This minimal design aesthetic is also benefitted by the simplified connection strategies that allow the radio to be fully functional when attached to a camera's hot shoe, without any cabled connections required. For attaching to remotes and external lights, a 3.5mm miniphone socket is available and three cables are included to offer an array of popular connection types.

This item is FCC compliant and can only be used with corresponding USA FCC compliant models. Using this item outside of the United States may be illegal. B&H is not responsible for any fines, fees, or penalties that may come from inappropriate spectrum usage.
10 Standard Channels
The PlusX features 10 standard channels for use to provide greater availability when working amongst other photographers or for greater control over complex lighting situations. These channels are compatible with all other PocketWizard of the same frequency.
Backlit Channel Dial and Status Indicator
An analog dial is used to quickly and easily switch between the 10 available channels. A full-time amber backlight is used to illuminate the selected channel for convenience and greater visibility when working in dimly-lit conditions. A tri-color LED is also incorporated into the design and provides a visual means for gauging the PlusX battery life when it is sending or receiving a transmission.
Internal Antenna
The internal antenna provides greater durability and eliminates the possibility or bending or breaking it during use. It also produces a more streamlined appearance when in use, and corresponds well to the side-profile design to create an overall visually unobtrusive look.
Simplified Connectivity
The transceiver is easily attached to most cameras through the hot shoe, with no extraneous cables required. For attaching to remotes and lights, there is an all-in-one sync port for wide compatibility. Cables are included for attaching from miniphone-to-miniphone, miniphone-to-phono, and miniphone-to-PC sync for cameras without a hot shoe. It is also compatible with all PocketWizard transmitters and receivers (of the same frequency) as well as PocketWizard-enabled lighting and metering equipment.
Auto-Sensing Transceiver
The PlusX is automatically set to intelligently and instantly switch between transmitter and receiver modes for the greatest amount of flexibility. You can also manually override this function and choose to have it act as a dedicated transmitter only, which will cancel its ability to receive or relay signals.
Auto-Relay Mode
When using three PocketWizard radios, you can remotely trigger a camera to fire and trigger a flash simultaneously. Utilizing the Auto-Sensing technology, the transceiver mounted to the camera can instantly receive a signal from an auxiliary transceiver, and then instantly convey the transmission to a remote flash. This provides a simple and highly efficient remote workflow.
Range and Sync Speed
When used in ideal conditions, this transceiver is capable of producing and receiving a signal up to 1600' away. It supports sync speeds up to 1/250 sec. with focal plane shutters and 1/500 sec with leaf shutters with a maximum triggering speed up to 14.5fps.

question

Will this work mounted on a Sony A7R / A7S to trigger a Canon 600EX-RT Flash ? Can it also adjust the flash output remotely? Thank you !
Asked by: Anonymous
The Plus X will mount to either of your Sony cameras. You'll need a second unit connected to your flash (even the Canon 600) though. You can not adjust the output of the flash from your Sony with the Plus X. You would need to use a Canon camera and a different PocketWizard system for that.

question

How is this product attached to a flash unit that is connected to a light stand?
Asked by: Anonymous
While the Plus X transceiver is attached to a strobe with a cable, you may use the following product to hold it in place on the stand: http://bhpho.to/1q1ATLU

question

Will I need to buy a ACC cable (CM-N3-ACC) for hooking up to a Canon 5D Mark II or is a compatible included?
Asked by: Anonymous
If you're looking to wirelessly trigger your camera from another PocketWizard, you would need the CM-N3-ACC trigger cable (B&H # WICMN3ACC1) to connect the PocketWizard to your 5D II. If you're simply using the Plus X as a transmitter to trigger other PocketWizzards (flashes), you don't need cables; the PocketWizard would just need to be on the hot shoe of your camera.

question

I have a Nikon D3200 and SB700 speedlight. I am new to remote triggers. So basically I am asking, do I just attached this to the camera and then the SB700 is automatically triggered? Or do I need to attach something to flash?Does this support TTL, or will the flash have to be in manual mode?
Asked by: Anonymous
To use the PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver to trigger the Nikon SB-700 Speedlight Flash off-camera, you would need two (2) PlusX Transceivers; one on the D3200 camera as a transmitter, and one connected to the SB-700 (via the PocketWizard HSFM3 Flash Sync Cable (3'), B&H # WIHSFM3) as a receiver. The PlusX Transceiver is not capable of automatic i-TTL flash exposure. As such, you would have to set the output power on the flash manually.

question

Will Pocketwizard PlusX work with all new profoto lights as well as elinchrom and is it compatible with their high speed sync functionality?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Plus X Transceiver can trigger Profoto strobes which have an intergrated Pocket Wizard receiver such as the Acute 2R system or Profoto and Elinchrom strobes that have another Plus X transceiver attached to them. The Plus X does not offer high speed sync.

question

Are these compatible with Profoto and if so, do I need to order any other sync cords?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the Pocketwizard PlusX is compatible with most of the Profoto line. You will need a PlusX for each Profoto and one for your camera. It comes with a sync cord with adapters so you can use it without the need of other sync cords.Note the PlusX is a manual sync so it will sync the strobe, but it is not TTL or have the ability to change power from the camera.

question

Can you transmit from the camera (with out using the hot shoe) to two off camera flashes? I want to put an on-camera flash on and have the option to use it or not to use it yet have the other two off-camera flashes trigger.
Asked by: Anonymous
As long as your camera has a PC sync port, you could hook up the Plus X to your camera with the included PC cable instead of using Plus X on the hot shoe. If your camera doesnt have a PC sync port, you would need to purchase a hot shoe adapter with a PC connection.
