    Hauppauge HD-PVR reviews

HD Personal Video Recorder 2 is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to your home theater I use the recorder to get the content from my satellite and DVR. The quality is very good, although not everything is broadcasted in 1920x1080 format. It is relatively easy to set up but you need to read and follow instructions carefully. If you are planing to record from the Satelite or cable signed you must use component out from the cable or Satelite box.Hdmi will to work. Once you install the software and connect the PC , it is very easy to make recordings. Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space. This device was recommended to me by a professional post production person and it is great addition to my home theater.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HD PVR 2 gained me space on my DVR This is a very interesting piece of equipment, which I bought to record some programs from my DVR (it seems I record more than I watch, so eventually I run out of space). The PVR was a little cranky at first and setup wasn't quite as straightforward as I would have liked, but eventually I was able to record HD programming. The setup included component video and optical audio connections. I would have liked to use the HDMI connection from DVR to HD PVR2 in pass through mode to the AV receiver, but content protection ruled that out. Perhaps new software might help eventually. The Capture software includes an editing mode which is great for clipping off the beginning and ends of programs where your recorder manages to capture some commercials in addition to program content. It did not work to cut out commercials in the middle of the programs. All in all, it does what it claims but be prepared to spend a couple of hours tweaking setups before becoming proficient. A good piece of equipment but I'm hoping for a software update.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great TV Recorder! I'm using the product to digitize recorded programs that are on my Directv DVR. The Hauppauge HD DVR 2 is a great solution for recording television programs and the quality is wonderful. I do recommend that you have a decent computer with at least a Core 2 Duo processor to handle the video processing without sacrificing recorded quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective, but tricky set up I use this device to live stream events for a client of mine from my Canon XF100 camera. It works well once you figure out how to get it set up correctly, but getting there is a little tricky. If you are using it for a live stream from a camcorder I suggest downloading the standalone Hauppauge StreamEez software rather than the Hauppauge Capture software since the latter is glitchy and has limited functionality.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It didn't work for us We needed a device that would allow us to connect a PTZ camera to a computer. Although the signal from the camera arrived to the Hauppauge-supplied software, the rest of the computer (Skype, Hangouts, etc.) could not see it. Nothing wrong with the device. I just think it is not designed for this purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great on PC with Windows 7 Not sure if it works on other OS's, but once I got the updated Firmware & Drivers from website, and figured out the best settings by Trial & Error because there are not many instructions, it works great. I bought this as a Spare in case they stop making the Model 1512, and something happens to my first one. It will record at 60 fps only when the input resolution is 720p. It will record 1080p but at 30 fps, I notice frame "flickering" or "stuttering", so I sacrifice slightly less resolution for smooth motion. Another hint: Record in TS format instead of MP4. I have tried others, such as the Hauppauge HD PVR 60, and the Elegato, but Returned them for Refund because they didn't as work as well as the HD PVR2 1512.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Captures Online Video in HD Quality! Purchased this PVR device to capture streamed online videos via the HDMI output on my notebook. Only difficulty experienced was tweaking the set-up settings to ensure maximum 1080p video capture quality, and getting audio during the capture mode via the component connection. Aside from the initial set-up issues, the PVR works better than expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome device, but be prepared to experiment I bought this to record movies in standard TS or MP4 format that can be played on any computer or HDTV (unlike my other DVR), and I almost sent it back because I couldn't get it to work. The main problem I had is the software would not install properly on my old Windows XP computer. Luckily, I have another computer with Windows 7 everthing installed smoothly. I also had to experiment with different settings to find out which worked best (because there are no instructions explaining them). P.S. I personally found the best method to record is in the WinTV program (versus Capture). By the way, I have seen several posts about needing Component cables to record protected content. I am able to record anything, including HDCP protected DVD's, using HDMI input but going through an HDMI splitter or another HDMI pass through device first.. The only Con I have is the fact that you have to run a USB cable across the room from your TV to your computer (or move your computer next to your TV box)
