Thecus N16000PRO overview

  • 1Description

The N16000PRO 16-Bay NAS Server from Thecus is equipped with the Intel Xeon E3-1275 processor that runs at 3.4 GHz with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. A 10 GbE network card can be added to the available PCIe slot to ensure the full power of the processor is used. Furthermore, link aggregation can be used to ensure your network doesn't slow down.

The ThecusOS 5.0 allows you to dynamically stack your NAS units for more capacities in a single volume. Simply designate your NAS as a stack master and implement a 10 GbE switch to connect additional target devices. Scalability is the key notion when it boils down to volume expansion. In fact, eight target devices can be intertwined for a massive volume of multi TB capacity when utilizing a 10 GbE switch.

Daisy-chaining is the most innovative function to expand storage volume while keeping costs down. Up to four D16000 DAS can be added to your NAS for an additional 64 bays of storage. As a result, IT enterprises or consumers who utilize large amounts of storage can obtain massive expansion. Another advantage of daisy-chaining is faster transfer speeds, thanks to the SAS cables that are used to daisy-chain the DAS to the NAS. If paired with volume expansion, daisy-chain can help large businesses expand their storage capacity to up to 2.5 PB.

The NAS runs on ThecusOS 5.0 which supports one of the most important features, High Availability (HA), within the storage industry. HA allows you to replicate the data on an active NAS to another standby NAS via 10 GbE synchronization. The importance of HA is quickly noticeable, whether there is data corruption or if the active NAS has any hard disk drive problems or downtime, the standby server keeps all vital data saved and is always available to take over the active NAS' responsibilities.

The NAS also supports Data Guard, the total backup solution that provides both local and remote backup under one roof. Currently, data is backed up across RAID volumes, external USB drives and eSATA. In addition, Data Guard uses innovative technology to sync data across the network to other NAS, so you can take advantage of real-time remote replication to keep your data safe. More importantly, Thecus Data Guard makes managing NAS user-friendly and convenient.

Additionally, to cover enterprise backup needs, Thecus offers five free registered copies of Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Server for Windows. Acronis offers a wide range of critical features which includes scheduling and hot backups with password protection, advanced compression functionality to help save space, incremental backups to save time and FTP/SFTP remote backup. Windows Server users now have a seamless, practical and secure system disaster recovery solution with features offered by Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Server for Windows (OEM).

In a multiple users environment, it is easy to spread a virus or malware through the data stored on the NAS. Adding an antivirus to the already comprehensive software bundle provides the necessary software protection by scanning the files on your NAS and defending it against possible threats.

The NAS is designed to meet the needs of large businesses that store large amount of data and who expect professional performance out of their NAS. With unified storage, you will have the ability to plug your NAS to an iSCSI network and at the same time, use your NAS as an IP storage pool for both protocols. This way, the NAS can be compatible with any existing or future architecture. Now with a faster processor, the NAS delivers quicker response time and handles multitasking with better ease than before.

High Availability (System Redundancy)
Regardless of the situation, HA actively keeps your data on two separate, identical NAS. If one needs maintenance, the other rises to the occasion without as much as a blip in service.
10 GbE Ready
High-end data centers often need a level of speed that average Internet connections cannot provide. This NAS is 10 GbE ready and can satisfy the toughest needs of today and tomorrow.
Link Aggregation
Link aggregation can sustain multiple network connections and provide redundancy in case one of the links fails. The NAS supports 7 modes which provide Load Balance, Failover, 802.3ad, Balance-XOR, Balance-TLB, Balance-ALB and Broadcast.
Data Guard
Thecus Data Guard is the total backup solution which makes managing NAS user-friendly and convenient. Data Guard backup solution software provides both local and remote parts. Currently, data is backed up across RAID volumes, external USB drives and eSATA. In addition, Data Guard uses innovative technology to sync data across the network to other NAS and servers.
Data Burn
NAS data can now be burned directly to CD, DVD and Blu-ray discs with Data Burn. This hassle-free module makes burning data to a disk effortless. In addition, burning an ISO image file is supported. Whether you're managing audio, media or essential files, Data Burn copies information fast while significantly reducing waiting time. The process of burning files to disk is now easy and smooth with the Data Burn module.
Thecus' innovative hardware helps prevent failures. However, the NAS needs protection against itself. Adding the McAfee antivirus to the already comprehensive software bundle provides the necessary software protection by scanning the files on your NAS and defending it against possible threats.
Cloud Backup
The private and public clouds meet with Thecus' DropBox, Amazon S3 and ElephantDrive cloud backup functionality. You can guard your data with RAID at home and an additional level of protection in the Cloud. Just drag and drop files into the folder on your NAS and access them on any computer or mobile device with DropBox, Amazon S3 or ElephantDrive.
HDMI Output
The HDMI output allows you to connect your NAS directly to your TV for device management.
USB 3.0 Connectivity
USB 3.0 connectivity provides speeds 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Whether connecting digital cameras and smart phones, backing up large external hard drives or extending the capacity of your NAS, USB 3.0 makes sure it's done in no time at up to 5 Gbps. Backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices ensures you get the best combination of speed and universal access.
Acronis True Image
Acronis True Image is an advanced backup software that allows you to back up all your data with one-click protection or pick and choose only your most important files. Acronis sports a slick interface, user-friendly design and comprehensive features to keep your data safe.
Multiple RAID
Create multiple RAID volumes, each supporting different RAID modes including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and JBOD to balance performance and data protection. Should a hard drive malfunction occur, changing one is simple, thanks to online RAID migration and expansion, hot-spare and auto rebuild.
Multiple File Systems
Support for multiple file systems, including EXT3, EXT4 and XFS, gives the NAS flexibility to handle different types of environments. You can simultaneously use different file systems across multiple RAID volumes to get the best of each one.
iSCSI Thin-Provisioning
You can now get the most out of your storage space with the extreme speed of iSCSI and the efficiency of iSCSI thin-provisioning. Connect through iSCSI for the faster data transfer speeds and avoid wastage of disk space with thin-provisioning's flexible storage functionality.
iOS/Android Connectivity
In today's world, nothing is as important as reaching your data from anywhere. With ThecusShare and the Thecus Dashboard, you can manage your NAS and upload to and download/stream from your NAS using an iOS or Android device on the go.
Backing up your data is necessary and everyone has specific needs when it comes to storage. Thecus' Rsync functionality gives you great flexibility with remote backup capability, a flexible scheduler and the stability of Linux-based transfer.
User Quota
Divide the massive storage of the NAS among multiple users. Whether there are 2 users or 100, User Quota makes it easy to divvy up and manage disk space.
PCIe Slot
The NAS is ready for a number of emerging technologies. Through the built-in PCIe slot, business users can add a 10G Ethernet adapter for lighting fast transfer speeds or a USB 3.0 adapter card to enjoy next-generation connectivity.
