The Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II Lens is a portable standard zoom lens that provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27-82.5mm for wide-angle to portrait-length coverage. This lens' construction integrates two aspherical and one ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements into its design to help reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range while also contributing to high overall image sharpness, clarity, and contrast. Also helping to improve the image quality is a refined rear lens element shade that serves to minimize internal reflections and prevent ghosting and flare.
The integrated SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor) system allows for smooth, precise, and quiet auto focusing that ideally suits use when recording video and working with moving subjects.
Portable Zoom Lens Design
The DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II lens (27-82.5mm 35mm-equivalent focal length) is specifically designed for use with APS-C sized image sensors and features a portable form-factor that makes it ideal for everyday use. Additionally, this lens features a minimum focus distance of just 9.8" and a magnification of 0.34x to better support shooting close-up subjects.
The lens features two aspherical elements and one ED glass element to help reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range while also aiding in producing images with accurate colors, contrast, and sharpness. Also benefitting the overall image quality is a refined rear lens element shade, which works to counter internal reflections and minimize the appearance of flare and ghosting on imagery.
Smooth Autofocus Motor
The SAM system within the lens provides smooth and quiet auto focusing performance that ideally suits HD video recording and other applications where focus speed and precision are necessary. The AF motor is incorporated within the lens itself and receives AF drive controls directly from the camera body for higher accuracy and more fluid focusing.
