Nikon WR-1 Overview

A part of the advanced Nikon Wireless Remote Control System, the WR-1 Wireless Remote Control Transceiver will allow users to remotely trigger and control their cameras. It uses a 2.4 GHz radio system with an impressive 394' range to communicate without requiring direct line of sight. Also, it can function as either a transmitter or receiver and is compatible with the WR-T10 transmitters and WR-R10 transceivers. The WR-1 offers control for up to 4 groups on one of 15 channels and will work with up to 20 WR-1 transceivers at once.

The WR-1 can be used for a variety of functions, such as a remote trigger for long exposures or interval and as a way to sync the shutter of multiple cameras. Another feature is using a release delay to stagger the triggering of the camera. On select cameras users will be able to view and change camera settings as well. Additionally, it is either powered by the camera or 2 AA batteries.

Nikon WR-1 Reviews

Use 5 of these to shoot soccer

I use these with 2 D5's and 1 Z7 acting as transmitters and a D4s and a Z6 as soccer goal cam receivers. Only setup I've found that allows me to cover the pitch corner-to-corner (WR-10 was intermittent at best) and to link 2 transmitters to 1 receiver. Re-link 100% of the time when I switch ends at half time and switch transmitters. I'm not saying there aren't other solutions - but this has worked 100% of the time for me, and reliability is more critical to me than a couple of bucks (can't re-shoot a match!). I recall a match where another shooter bragged about his less-than-fifty-buck wireless setup - who then missed PKs because his rig lost sync. I got great shots. Took off a star because they are expensive, and it is painstaking to set up. Would give back a half star for the naming capability and auto-sync if I could. Wish B&H stocked these. Bottom-line - if range, portability, and reliability are important, these will meet your requirements reliably. Really hope they will work with the D6!

Nikon WR-1 Nightmare

This unit is not ready for a prime time yet. It's not going to work with Ninons wireless receiver form the WR family unless the firmware is updated. The trigger will work but not the Fn button. But the problems is with the menu. It works and doesn't from time to time. I had to yank out the battery out to get the menu back to work. If you can leave without this overpriced unit and just get the cabled one, do that instead.

question

compatible with D700?and how many camera you can control same time?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon WR-1 is not compatible with the Nikon D700. By itself, the WR-1 can control one camera, however, when paired with other cameras using WR-1s, one WR-1 acting as a transceiver can control the shutter on up to 20 cameras paired with another WR-1 or up to 64 cameras paired with WR-R10 unit.

question

I have the D5 and D800 and wonder if I can change the settings remotely?
Asked by: Jie
If you are planning to use your D800 camera with WR-1, you would have to upgrade to D810 camera where you can use everything of D800 on D810 (battery, battery charger, MB-D12 (with BL-5 can use EN-EL18 battery)from your D5 camera
