    ION Audio Tape Express+ reviews

Tape Express Plus Tape-to-Digital Converter & Player with Headphones is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would recommend this product After searching for quite a long time for the right product to transfer my cassettes to my Mac, I finally found this product! One of my main concerns was the type of software that was being used as I had a lot of major problems with 'Audacity' in the past. This product doesn't use that software which made it the reason I purchased this brand. It's easy to use, easy to transfer except for a few cliches (such as it didn't transfer the entire song on quite a few of them) overall this product is easy-peasy to use and helped to save all my cassettes from eventually fading into dust. The price is reasonable and the people at B&H were extremely helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Basic cassette player with USB output for analog to digital This is a simple basic device for playing an analog cassette tape and producing digital output that you capture on your computer using a USB input. It comes with short USB cable and with software for managing the conversion and capture. It's inexpensively made - some would say cheaply made -- but it's adequate for the task of converting the 50 or so cassettes I still have. The included software is simple and easy to use. Others reviewers have suggesting using freeware that offers more functionality, but the software provided by Ion worked OK for basic A-D conversion. It splits the tape into tracks and lets you rename the album and the tracks. If I wanted to do any editing on the files, I'd use the GarageBand application that is bundled with my Apple computer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says While not the top of the line for conversing tapes to mp3s, it gets the job done. Some of the reviews comment on poor audio quality, and my experience has been that this has more to do with the quality of the original cassette. Many of the 30 year old pre recorded tapes I own have not aged well, and the resulting audio quality is lacking. However, since I used Chrome or Metal tapes when creating personal cassettes the resulting mp3s are of much better quality. One negative I was not happy with EZ Vinyl/Tape converter and am using Audacity instead. Audacity gives you many more features and controls to get the most out of the recording, and best of all it is free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good Product is easy to set up, altho instructions don't completely walk you through all the features. I chanced upon some of the features during different recordings, so probably best to do some test runs and explore the features. Output file is good quality. The automatic song-splitter doesn't work consistenty well, and sometimes gets triggered when it is not the end of the song, so I decided to manually start/stop each song, which is time consuming but guarantees I am getting the files I want.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I have been able to get it to play/record onto the computer via the USB, but I get a very annoying - and loud - buzz. It reminds me of a ground buzz. The playing quality doesn't appear to be very good either. I tried just plugging it into the mic jack and recording to the computer, but it was poor quality. Just listening with the headphones the quality could be better too. I also contacted IONs help and got an email back saying they'd get back within 72 hours (excepting weekends and holidays). Well...it's now been about 2 weeks and I've yet to hear word one from them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Records Too Fast Recordings sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I had to return it to the manufacturer, and am waiting for a replacement. I spent a lot of time on the phone with customer support, who said I would receive a replacement in about a week. Their follow-up email said it could take 4-6 weeks. I hope that's not the case, because I really need it right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent player/converter for the money. I used the Tape Express to convert cassette to digital. Build quality of the player is sturdy enough, and I was impressed with tape speed stability and excellent sound quality from its onboard A/D converter. Having been warned in other reviews not to use the bundled software, which requires iTunes as its target destination, I used Audacity instead. This free software abounds with flexibility and features. My source cassette was recorded without Dolby NR. The Tape Express has neither Dolby decoding nor playback settings for various tape formulations. Audacity's graphic EQ could be helpful with these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reasonable - not great The tape player certainly isn't made like a Walkman. The software cuts off the file at under four minutes. But, skip the software and use the player with Garageband - easy enough. I don't have many tapes to convert and they are mostly spoken word so it seems to work okay for me. I have encountered the rapid playback but I start again and it's gone.
