Nikon MB-D15 overview

  • 1Description

Dedicated to the Nikon D7100 and D7200 DSLRs, the MB-D15 Multi Battery Power Pack offers both enhanced handling capabilities as well as extended battery life while shooting. It accepts one additional EN-EL15 lithium-ion battery pack to increase the camera's battery life or, alternatively, six AA batteries can be used in conjunction with the included MS-D14 AA Battery Holder. The design of the grip improves shooting in the vertical orientation and also provides an overall more ergonomic structure for holding the camera. An additional shutter release button, AE/AF lock button, multi selector, and main- and sub-command dials are all incorporated into the grip's design to benefit more natural and intuitive handling.

    Nikon MB-D15 reviews

MB-D15 Multi Battery Power Pack is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 221.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The MB-D15, use it !! Being the proud owner of a Nikon F5 that I am still using on a regular basis, I naturally added a battery grip to my D300 a few years ago. It gave me the added grip I needed.(I find the grips of the DSLR's generally too short). So when I moved to the D7200 8 years later, I felt the need for the MB-D15, more so because the grip of the 7200 is smaller than the 300s. The fact that I needed the additional capacity provided by the second power source had me ordering the MB-D15 ASAP: I use RAW+ JPEG large I know that some independent firms are selling Battery Packs, but I do not trust them. I have used the Nikon brand so far w/o a glitch!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent, but pricey grip The Nikon MB-D15 completes the D7100. This grip has an outstanding feel, is very durable, allows comfortable vertical shooting, and just plain looks cool! All the buttons work perfectly, and it has none of the quirks of the aftermarket grips. It is a highly suggested add-on for your D7100; especially if you have larger hands. However... It is very pricey. At the price I purchased it for, it was 23% of the total price of the D7100 body. Ouch. Nikon could probably do itself a favor by offering this item at a lower price point. They might even sell a lot more. With that said, I am mostly happy that I have it. This is a 5 star product but with a 2 star price tag. Thus, I'll give 4 stars for the MB-D15.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for travelling photographers. I can only say great things about it. It just gives me comfort and balanced while I shoot anything. It provides me perfect stability and rigidity which allows me to focus comfortably and eliminate the shaking of my hands-achieves a excellent handheld grip! The best part when u can switch the compartment to AA Batteries. Good for travelling to the beach, desert, the mountains, when your rechargeable Li-ion battery ran out of power. And AA batteries are cheaper to use and economical and still takes good pictures. *

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built perfect fit Lightweight and fits well in my hands. Having the vertical grip and useful controls at your fingertips is very handy. AF and mini-joystick controls are well placed so no need to take your eye off the viewfinder. It compliments the asthetics of the D7200 well. I would really love it if it was a bit bigger. Having the ability to use AA batteries is a great backup just in case. Only have it a month so too soon to determine how it will stand up to use. It feels sturdy, similar to the others I use so it is reasonable to expect it to perform well for quite some time. A bit pricey but I use it all the time. Minus a half star because it only holds one battery. Minus another half star for price. Nikon has never been inexpensive. Par for the course.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as Expected I bought this for use in studio flash photography using remote flashes not mounted on camera. I have a D7100. It was very straight forward to install and start using. I will keep this device attached to my D7100 most of the time. This device had two items that were not clear on the web-site, specifically: 1) a 4xAA battery cartridge; and 2) a Nikon SMBus LiON cartridge for the Nikon rechargeable battery packs. You can also leave one battery in the camera as well for swapping out batteries without shutdown. This device also has a tripod mounting point. Something I have not figured out yet is how to get the camera to auto-rotate when taking portrait shots vs. landscape shots. I was under the impression it had an orientation sensor. Cons: Your DLSR just gets bigger and heavier. You should ask yourself if you really need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get a grip! This grip matches perfectly with my D7100. With the additional optional battery it provides outstanding stamina and burst when you need it most. The build quality is excellent and the magnesium alloy body feels good in your hand. The extra shutter release and multi selector makes shooting in portrait much more comfortable and natural. The rubber cover from the camera body connector is conveniently stored in its own recess to prevent it being misplaced and you have the option of using different battery types. Yes it's expensive and there are cheaper third party grips on the market but this genuine accessory instils the confidence you expect from Nikon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a must have grip!!!! Ok guys we all know the authentic Nikon grip for the D7100-7200 is super expensive, but it is so utterly fantastic!!!!! Nothing fits like it nothing works like it. Don't buy the cheaper knock off grips! They are all junk compared to this. Just buy it and cry once you won't regret it!! I can't say enough great things about this grip. It says multi battery because it will use one EN-EL15 or a tray of AA batteries with the supplied adapter tray. The grip is magnesium ,plastic and rubber. It is spot on perfect! You will not regret this purchase once you put it on and grip it. It is the best for a reason!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Much Needed Accessory Its nice to be able to have a more secure grip on the camera, especially in the vertical position. Unfortunately, its multi-selector on the grip is kind of a joke, which is way too small for my hands (especially since I don't have very large hands) and only seems to work sporadically. Fortunately, though, one can access the larger one which works fine (so far). Having to remove the power pack to access one of the batteries really surprised me with its poor design. Very unlike Nikon. Overall though, I'm glad I bought one because it is an original Nikon product, and not one of the numerous knockoffs.
