The Lowel GL-1 Power LED is a compact handheld light source that is ideal for any type of event or location photography that demands portability, flexibility and ease of use. The removable, rechargeable battery is located at the base for precise balance and its flat underside and low-profile feet allow placement on a table or other flat surface. There's also a 1/4"-20 threaded socket for tripod mounting.

The GL-1's flexible qualities begin with the focusing head with a 5:1 spot-to-flood ratio that allows you to back light or hair light your subject or pull back to add some fill light when needed to open up the shadows. The trigger-controlled dimming and a thumb-operated light intensity dial allows 1 hand operation for multi-tasking scenarios. The GL-1 comes with the light head, battery, multi-voltage charger and AC adapter. Its 3,000K output can be cooled to 5,300K for use in daylight with the purchase of an optional filter that mounts to the GL-1's 82 mm front screw thread.

Focusing Head

The GL-1's 8:1 focusing range lets you zero in to highlight your subject with a tight spot or pull back to wide flood and add fill light to a larger area

2 Ways to Dim

Use the adjustable Dimming Trigger to quickly get the perfect light level for short term handheld use or lock the light in the ON position and dial in an intensity for longer term constant output at any level

Lowel GL-1 Power Reviews

Poor battery life

By Victor

The battery with very limited use after one year lasted maybe 10 minutes at full power. Now, I get 5 minutes at most. I also agree with the others that battery is not held well and can fall out. Lastly, the trigger only works at full power. Don't waste your money.

Used once, never charged again

Used the light once the day after it arrived. It didn't use it for long so the battery didn't die. Tried to use again 3 months later and it never came back on. Won't charge at all. Too over priced for a one time use.

Poor build

I’ve had this for several years—in fact I have two of them. And when they work, they are great! I was luck enough to get a lot of use at weddings. My issued is the build—the batteries fall out and I have to use tape to keep them in. And now, not one of the four batteries will keep a charge! Yes, there’s AC, but that sort of defeats the purpose. I loved the light, but wished the batteries were built better.

Too Expensive & Poor Build Quality...

I've had this light for six years (had to purchase new battery recently). The primary positive about this light is its' uniqueness. I haven't found another that does the same thing. On the negative side; the build quality is awful... the battery doesn't lock in place and falls out, charger doesn't always work, and here's the best indicator of the poor build quality... take a look at the photo that I uploaded. Notice anything? Yeah, they installed the fan cover upside down. LOWELL really needs to update this product. Lastly, way overpriced. It's right around $450; should be $299.00.

Totally Unreliable

I bought this light a couple of years ago. The first year, I used it probably once. 1 month after the warranty expired I was using it on a job, light painting a house at twilight. It kept shutting down and I had to use my strobes to finish the job. I emailed Lowel and they said I would have to pay for a repair since it was one month past the warranty period. After complaining that I only used this one time before, they agreed to repair it for free. They also told me to make sure to charge the battery on a monthly basis, whether or not I use it. So now, after following their instructions, I used it for the second time since the repair and it was shutting down on me again the other night. What a shame. When it works, it's a great light but unfortunately you cannot rely on it.

Incredible light but falls short

I've used this light for a ton of stylized portrait sessions on cruise ships utilizing the natural decor of the ship and introducing fill light with this video light to balance the photo. The pressure sensitive trigger is amazing. The push pull modifier to narrow and widen the beam is absolutely fantastic and the design is great. However, this is where it falls short. The battery attachment is poorly made. It doesn't lock in place half the time with its plastic clips on either side and it falls out. When it falls, it breaks (the plastic clips that hold it in) and you have to tape the battery each time. The light itself is very expensive for what it is, but having the ability to control your light this way is outstanding. The fact that they haven't created a better one is disappointing. If they could take this and move forward with it, it would be the best selling video light to use for photography. If you add some kind of strap around the battery to make sure it doesn't fall out, you will be fine. This is my absolute favorite go to light for shooting indoors. It also works outdoors for balancing your subject with the environment at night, instead of using a flash. From a size and weight perspective, it is a bit on the heavy side. The battery is pretty heavy. Battery time lasts for a full shoot, and having the ability to keep the light on constant is there. It has a mount for a stand but remember, it's heavy so be careful and bag your stand.

Terrible Battery

I bought this light thinking it will be perfect for weddings and events and I was very wrong. My 1st battery died just after a year of use and I bought a 2nd battery (I believe for $150) and it also died after a year. This light was the biggest waste of money even though it was good while it lasted. I wish a different battery manufacturer would make a replacement that actually works.

question

How would I put this on a stick/pole for wedding photography?
Asked by: Glen
There is a screw in on the bottom, just like on the bottom of a Speedlight plate to screw onto a light stand or bracket. I love this light and highly recommend it!
