The Custom Finder Kit for 3.0-3.2" Camera LCD Screens from Hoodman affords you better visibility during shooting and playback with your DSLR, and provides you with an adjustable mounting solution. By attaching to the LCD screen and isolating it from ambient light, the supplied HoodLoupe with German glass optics eliminates shadows and reflections. It provides full LCD coverage, 1:1 magnification and diopter adjustment.

Also supplied is the HCP CustomFinder Base Plate, which features a camera mounting screw and dual 1/4"-20 tripod sockets. The included hex tool enables horizontal and vertical adjustments. The horizontal quick-release bar attached to the upright column that supports the loupe can be easily moved in and out using the brass knob, allowing you to attach or remove the loupe from the assembly.

Hoodman HoodLoupe 3" Glare Free LCD Loupe

Enjoy better visibility during shooting and playback with your DSLR or mirrorless camera by using this HoodLoupe 3" Glare Free LCD Loupe from Hoodman. It is compatible with all 3" LCDs and Nikon 3.2" LCDs. When held against the screen, the loupe isolates it from ambient light, eliminating shadows and reflections. It offers +/-3 diopter adjustment and a 1:1 ratio of magnification.

The loupe has German glass optics and a rubber-coated body. It can hang from your neck via the supplied detachable lanyard with quick release, and can be stored in the included carry case. The optional #HCP Custom Finder Plate with dual 1/4"-20 tripod mounting studs attaches to your camera and has an upright column that connects to the loupe. A horizontal quick-release bar attached to the column lets you attach or remove the loupe from the assembly.

Hoodman HoodLoupe Teardrop Eyecup

An upgrade for all HoodLoupe eyecups, the Hoodman HoodLoupe Teardrop Eyecup blocks out ambient light for improved visibility when looking at your camera's LCD screen. The tear drop shape is a natural fit for the contour of your head, creating a complete light seal and offering added comfort. The eyecup emulates eyepieces used on high-end motion picture cameras.

You can mount the Teardrop in seconds by removing your original eyecup and pushing the Teardrop over the viewing end of the HoodLoupe. Since it's mounted on a slip ring, the eyecup stays in place while you're adjusting your diopter and can also spin to right or left eye position.

Great for seeing display screen in bright light, but unable to use while camera is on tripod.

Keeping My Eye on the Ball - or Whatever Else I am Shooting

I use this product primarily for shooting video. It allows me to focus on the fly with no glare to get in the way of the best shots. This fits well on my camera and has a great universal mount for tripod use. I saw this at PhotoShop World and wish I had purchased it then. However, B&H got it out to me very quickly. Definitely worth having in my equipment arsenal.

I use this camera with my Canon 5D Mark III. The hood fits snugly and is easy to use. I keep the plate on the bottom of my camera all the time. It's a great accessory for using in conjunction with other quick release plates. I typically use this to shoot out door video off the tripod because it's easy to very quickly add the hood without a lot of swapping out parts.

Where are the tools response?

For those who read the Where are the tools? review... The allen wrench to make the adjusts for the base is cleverly located right next to the vertical support for the hood. It's nice because it stays with the hood so you don't have to go digging through your bag to find the wrench to make adjustments. You can save yourself some money by buying the strap option but the convenience and stability of this product makes it well worth it for me.

Cool Attachment for Videos

Taking videos with my Canon EOS 100-400mm lens using the LCD screen is impossible. The Hoodman lets me hold the camera against my eye, adding an extra point of contact to steady it and providing a bright image on the screen. Its frame mounts easily to the camera body and the viewer can be clicked into place quickly when the opportunity for a video arises.

Good but not so comfortable at least for me

Seems good visual quality, I think these things including Z-finder are way overpriced for what they are but essentially this thing worked well. My problem was that I use the finder also to stabilize camera against my face and this was not comfortable to do so.

question

Does the base plate and socket work with an Arca type quick release for tripod head? I have the Really Right Stuff quick release attached to my Acratech ballhead. There doesn't seem to be any info on how to attach it to the camera and tripod.
Asked by: Sherry
I have not used either the Acratech head or the quick release.. But the base plate has a standard tripod mount socket, which accepts a tripod screw I believe that anything that works with the camera itself will work with the Hoodman plate once it is attached the camera. The Hoodman itself will likely not work with a quick release to attach itself to the camera, but I don't think that this is your question.
