Impact Ready Cool overview

  • 1Description

The Impact READY COOL 4-Lamp Fluorescent Fixture is an economical light source that combines an efficient reflector with built-in hammered aluminum reflective barndoors to give you a fixture capable of an impressive output equivalent to a 1000W hot light. However, unlike tungsten lights, the FRC-24 has a very low power draw and emits very little heat, meaning reduced operational costs and minimal potential harm to your set or talent. Additionally, with lamp life up to 8000 hours the FRC-24 is virtually maintenance-free.

One of the FRC-24's most useful features is 2-lamp/4-lamp switching, that allows you to reduce the power to 50% for low light shooting. It's also possible to install both tungsten balanced and daylight-balanced lamps for dual color capability. The FRC-24 comes with the fixture, lamps, power cord, flexible gooseneck stand mount with 5/8" receiver, and a padded carrying bag to transport or store it all.

The FRC-24 is a muti voltage fixture that can be used anywhere in the world with 110-220 VAC, 50/60 Hz. An optional plug adapter will be needed for outlets outside of the U.S.

    Impact Ready Cool reviews

READY COOL 4-Lamp Fluorescent Fixture is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not 48 Lamps, not normal Impact quality. Although the title is Ready Cool 4 these are not 48 lamps. They are 24 with a similar output of a single bulb 48 with 4 lamps. FYI light output at 5' is ISO100, 30, f/2.8. Not what I expected and certainly not worth $ or whatever the sale price is at the time of purchase. Other very noticeable areas that seriously lack. The articulated arm is weak. After five minutes the arm started to loosen. The cord is short and fell out of the back multiple times (during the 5 minutes we used it). The light stand seat is short and doesn't seat completely down, which leaves everything wobbling at the lamp.Never got to testing the color balance. I'd steer clear of these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They work until they don't I've had a set of these for little more than a year. They worked fine until a few months out of warranty, one of the two ballasts in one fixture failed. Not a month later the second ballast failed. I contacted the company and they won't sell replacement parts, saying only The light can be serviced for $95plusshipping. Well, no, that's half the cost of the original unit. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for. These are cheap lights. You get what you pay for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from really bad quality I stupidly bought 5 of these pieces of junk, so far 2 are still some what working, sent in one of the lights twice for switch problems and the switch went again. Like I noticed one of the other reviews about parts and that Impact will not send out parts, I also had the same problem, told me send it in and they will fix it. For one thing I will not pay that kind of money to send it in and pay to have Impact fix it for a one dollar part, if they can fix it, they have the parts. Plus the fact I would have to be without the lights. Like they say, you get what you pay for, buying a better quality this time. Shame on you B&H for selling this junk (but I still like your store and will buy in the future).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Look elsewhere, only works when new This is my second review of this fixture. This product is undependable. The manufacturer replaced my unit after the first failure - one bank of two bulbs failed to light on the job - so this is the second new unit that I am now reviewing. I bought the first in June 2015 and used it only occasionally on easy, indoor shoots. In about 8 months only one bank lit. As a corporate shooter I can't have too many "oops" moments before the client notices that I too am undependable. Nice design, nice finish, bad parts. One set of lights failed each time. Bad switch, bad ballast? One or the other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light output no different than Diva 400. If you shoot a video using the diva 400 and then replace the diva with this Ready Cool 4 Lamp, you will see NO difference. The reason it's much more inexpensive is because of convenience and durability. This light does NOT dim - however it's nothing a little ND gel or diffusion can't fix. The casing is flimsier than the diva 400. When I got it, I immediately tightened the barn door screws. Seems to be holding up just fine. The reason I gave it 5 stars is because the actual light (what you see on the video) is perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good affordable option, but not great. This product is a good affordable option for fluorescent lighting. The cons are that it feels fragile and the barn doors sag, specially when you put any diffuse or gels on it. Also, the bulbs that come with it are not great. However, I replaced the bulbs with Kino True Match and and now I have a very pretty light source with an affordable fixture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works VERY WELL - great price! Why spend a thousand dollars on these when these Impact lights work just as good. These things are fantastic, easy to set up, very good light. You shouldn't be disappointed. The flaps are a little thin and can be tightened with a few screws but that's the only negative I could say about them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value lighting -- and good color I tested it just now. All measurements taken at 1 Meter from front of light source with Minolta IVF; 1/45 shutter, ISO 400. Results: Impact light with all bulbs on = f/8 3/10 F&V 4000 single unit LED = f/5.6 8/10 ARRI 750 watt open face = f/22 2/10 So... it is nowhere near as bright as a real, actual tungsten light. Even with a -2 stop blue filter, the ARRI 750 watt light is still brighter. Not to say it's a bad light. It's just not anywhere as bright as tungsten. No LED or fluorescent light I've ever tested is as bright as XYZ watt tungsten. Never. Tungsten is just BRIGHT. And hot, and fragile, etc. Color temp of the light is pretty good. (measured with Minolta IIIF color meter) Color temp with Chinese bulbs it comes with is at 5600 K but with CC 24M (add magenta) correction required. Color temp with Kino TrueMatch bulbs 5800 K and only CC 6M required. Both bulbs had a slight blueish cast of between LB 4 and 7. Surprisingly, the Chinese ones were closer to zero (which is a good thing). The build is what you'd expect for the buck. Barn doors are THIN, but they do help direct the light. The unit is a lot smaller physically than I imagined. And light. I could see carrying two or three of these in one hand in their carry bag (yeah, it comes with a cheap, thinly padded bag which is actually very useful. Imagine an artist's portfolio bag; kinda like that). The ability to switch banks is useful. This is NOT DIMMABLE. I tried. On or off. Or hang some ND gel over it. It gets warm, but not hot enough to burn anything and will be ready to pack in moments of shut down. Do note that the bulbs need a few minutes to come up to temp and brightness. This is not instant on like an LED. I took one star off primarily for the cheap way the bulbs are held in place. The tiny, delicate plastic holders at the glass end are sketchy. They fit over the original bulbs OK, but the Kino bulbs are just a bit bigger in diameter and the clips don't fully engage. Nothing broken yet, but with replacement bulbs as they are, one would hate to lose one (or four) very often. Overall, a keeper light. I will probably buy two or three more. Can't beat the value. One bulb was broken on arrival and B&H replaced it promptly. Can't beat the service either!
