Canon SX280 HS Overview

The black PowerShot SX280 HS Digital Camera from Canon is a compact point-and-shoot camera with a 12.1MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 image processor which creates sharp, high-resolution photos and Full HD 1080/60p videos. It provides a 20x optical zoom lens with a 35mm focal length equivalency of 25-500mm for a full range of shooting options from wide-angle to super-telephoto. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to transfer images wirelessly to your computer and by downloading Canon's free CameraWindow app you can instantly pass images to your iOS or Android devices and share them. A GPS Tracking device marks the location all your shots were taken and allows you to create maps of your shooting with free Canon software.

The SX280 HS offers effective low light performance up to ISO 6400 and its optical image stabilizer provides compensation for camera shake, creating photos with significantly less blur when shooting in low light or at long focal lengths. Intelligent Image Stabilization will automatically choose from six different IS modes to optimize performance based on the shooting conditions.

Full HD 1080p video capture is supported, including shooting at 60fps for smoother, more natural looking video, especially when shooting dynamic motion. Smart Auto mode selects the best camera setting based on 58 predefined shooting situations and New Hybrid Auto utilizes a combination of Smart Auto and Intelligent IS to create a beautiful and sharp 720p HD video clip in Movie Digest mode.

The 12.1MP CMOS sensor provides clear images with accurate colors and sharp details.
DIGIC 6 Image Processor
The DIGIC 6, combined with the 12.1 CMOS sensor, create the Canon HS System which delivers sharp images, improved low-light performance, accurate autofocus and fast performance and response times.
Full HD 1080p Video Capture at 60fps
The SX280 HS supports Full HD 1080p video shooting and offers 60fps shooting for smooth, cinema-like imaging. At smaller resolutions, slow-motion and super-slow motion video is supported as is miniature effect.
Built-in Wi-Fi
Built-in Wi-Fi allows one button transfer of images to your computer and by installing the free Canon CameraWindow app you can instantly send images to your smartphone or tablet and share on social networking sites. Wi-Fi also enables remote camera control via your smartphone and automatic backup of your photos and videos.
20x Optical Zoom Lens
The SX280 HS features a 20x optical zoom lens with a 35mm focal length equivalent of 25-500mm. This powerful zoom lens provides coverage from true wide-angle to super telephoto, enabling you to shoot in any situation.
Optical Image Stabilization and Intelligent IS
Canon's Image Stabilization system offers compensation for camera shake and helps to create clear images even when shooting in low light and at long focal lengths. Intelligent IS automatically chooses from six different modes to optimize image stabilization for each shooting condition.
Smart AUTO and Hybrid Auto
Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper camera settings based on 58 pre-defined shooting situations and Hybrid Auto utilizes a combination of Smart AUTO and Intelligent IS to create a beautiful and steady 720p HD video clip (up to approximately 4 seconds) in Movie Digest mode every time you shoot a still image.
Face ID
The Face ID function recognizes when you are taking portraits or group shots and automatically adjusts the cameras settings for optimal focus and exposure.
GPS Tracker
GPS tracker that records the location where you shot each photo and a logger lets you view the locations on a map using Canon software.

Is the SD Card for this camera compatible to play videos on the Philips Blue Ray disc player (BDP 5012)?

Yes, the Philips BluRay player BDP5012 can accept the same type of memory card as the Canon PowerShot SX280 HS. However, according to the Philips manual, the largest capacity support is 8GB. If you have a 16GB SD card or larger, it will not work in the player.

The Canon CB-2LY Compact Battery Charger should have been included with this camera model. You would need to remove the battery from the camera and place it in the charger dock to charge the battery.

My current Canon Powershot SD 880 IS seems to take forever to recover for the next shot (I don't know what that's called.) Is this faster?

The SX280 is faster than your SD880 IS was, but still not going to give you a noticeable performance difference. Below is a link to a recommendation which has a shorter zoom range in the lens, but performs much much faster and also performs well in low light situations. The Canon SX280 does not support live video output directly. You must record the video on the memory card first and then down load it to your computer.
