The MVH500AH Fluid Video Head with Flat Base from Manfrotto is designed with a wide platform, optimal for HDSLR camera bodies. Smooth and precise, it has a maximum load capacity of 17.6 lb and professional quality fluid cartridges on both its pan and tilt axes. It has a pre-set spring-loaded counterbalance of 5.3 lb, its lateral tilt range is -70°/+90° and it provides 360° panning rotation.
question
After tightening tilt knob would this mvh500ah droop with celestron C5 spotter scope and DSLR total 9LB 2oz? mostly back heavy so I would slide the plate forward.I want to attach 2 3/8 screws that need to be 2-3/8 inches apart center to center is that possible with slot length?thanks
Amazing head for the money. Surprisingly smooth. Have used it with a Canon 7D MkII + 100-400MM Zoom (MkI). Approx. 5.5 pounds total. Tripod had vibration (due to wooden platform, people, sea breeze, who knows,) but got Sea Lions with acceptable pan smoothness later. I think you have 5.5 lb. spring, plus can compensate by tightening head rated for maybe 11 lbs.

Does the Manfrotto 520ballsh 75mm short half-ball ...
Does the Manfrotto 520ballsh 75mm short half-ball work on the MVH500AH fluid head?
Yes. I have the Manfrotto MVH500AH flat base video head attached to a Manfrotto 520ballsh 75mm short half-ball mounted on a 75mm half-bowl tripod. I do not use any adapter between the video head and the half-ball. The video head flat base is slightly smaller in circumference than the flat top of the half- ball but the three set screws in the half-ball to prevent slipping anchor just fine against the flat base of the head. The video head stays securely on the half-ball with no twisting at all. When attached, you have to look very closely to even notice the slight difference in circumference. Works perfectly to level a camera for both video and photography.

question
Will this work with the Manfrotto MT055XPRO3?
Yes, the head will work with that tripod because it has a 3/8 base not a 1/4-20. I own this head and it is very good with my Canon XA20 and a short shotgun mic. The fluid head needs to be matched with the camera you plan to use. Weight and fluid movement must correspond.

question
Anyone try this with a video rig 9-10lbs? How does it handle close to max payload?
This is a good light-duty head for use with DSLRs and smaller video cameras and it should be good even at max payload. However, since you are asking I would suggest considering a higher capacity head if you are going to be at the max load most of the time.

Does this head have a locking system to keep the plate from sliding out?
Yes, there is a locking mechanism in the head making sure the plate will not slide out. The plate is released by a lever on the side of the head.

Is this head compatible with JVC KY-PZ100BU ?
I believe so. You probably won't need a pan handle.
