Canon Rebel T5i overview

  • 1Description

The EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens from Canon is an APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. It is combined with the versatile EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens for a wide range of focal length shooting options.

With 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion, an ISO range from 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) and Multi Shot Noise Reduction, the Rebel T5i offers sharp details, accurate colors and low-noise imaging in both bright and low-light shooting situations. Its 9-point all cross-type autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting with the viewfinder and Hybrid CMOS AF increases autofocus speeds when shooting in Live View. The Rebel T5i can continuously shoot up to 5 fps.

A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD with 1,040k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing. Its tilt and swivel capability makes it easy to compose your shots at odd angles and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Intuitive touchscreen operation includes Touch Autofocus.

Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24 fps is supported with Movie Servo for continuous autofocus during shooting. Manual exposure is provided in video mode and 60 fps is possible when shooting at 720p HD. A built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment is provided for quality audio recording with your videos.

Scene Intelligent Auto Mode automatically makes the optimal camera adjustments based on scene recognition and improved scene detection is particularly helpful when shooting night scenes. Advanced imaging features such as Handheld Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control make capturing difficult shots easy and seven Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can even be viewed in real time during Live View shooting.

The EOS Rebel T5i utilizes SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is paired here with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which offers wide-angle to telephoto focal range specifically designed for APS-C cameras. This compact 18-135mm lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system to reduce the blurring effects of camera shake when shooting at long focal lengths or in low light. It offers four stops of correction to provide clear images when using slower shutter speeds, and Dynamic Image Stabilization reduces video shake while tracking moving subjects or walking with your camera. The autofocus stepping motor (STM) offers fast, accurate and quiet autofocus when using the Movie Servo mode on the Rebel T5i, which ensures that the sound of the autofocus motor does not interrupt your audio recording while shooting a video. An aspherical and an Ultra-low Dispersion lens element reduce aberrations for sharp, high-contrast imaging.

With 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion, the EOS Rebel T5i captures and records images with subtle tonal gradations and details resulting in more realistic and color-accurate images. By recording up to 16,384 colors per channel, the EOS Rebel T5i ensures that the fine details are recorded with accuracy.

An ISO Range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) provides low-noise capture in low light situations and saturated colors in bright conditions.
EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens
The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is built to match the sensor size on APS-C cameras and offers wide-angle to telephoto shooting capability, equivalent to a 29-216mm focal range in the 35mm format. This compact lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system to reduce the blurring effects of camera shake when shooting at long focal lengths or in low light. It offers four stops of correction to provide clear images when using slower shutter speeds, and its Dynamic Image Stabilization improves the look of video while tracking moving subjects or walking with your camera. An inner focusing system provides fast focusing without extending the lens and the autofocus stepping motor (STM) offers smooth and quiet autofocus when using the Movie Servo mode on the Rebel T5i. Scene Intelligent Auto
Scene Intelligent Auto mode incorporates a number of Canon technologies to deliver the best possible exposure. Joining Picture Style Auto, Automatic Lighting Optimizer, Automatic White Balance, Autofocus, and Automatic Exposure, Scene Intelligent Auto mode analyzes the image, accounting for faces, colors, brightness, moving objects, contrast, even whether the camera is handheld or on a tripod, and then chooses the exposure and enhancements that bring out the best in any scene or situation.
Advanced Image Features
Handheld Night Scene mode makes it easy to shoot difficult night scenes without blur. By shooting and combining four consecutive shots at a shutter speed fast enough to avoid camera shake, Handheld Night Scene mode makes dramatic nighttime photography simple. HDR Backlight Control shoots three images of the same scene at differing exposures, and combines them for one expertly balanced image.
Scene Mode Position
Newly featured on the EOS Rebel T5i, the SCN setting on the Mode dial activates a choice of scenes on the menu screen for quick access to features like Night Portrait, HDR Backlight Control, Handheld Night Scene and more.
Memory
Compatible with SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards, including Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) cards.
Lens Aberration Correction
The EOS Rebel T5i features lens correction tools that compensate for lens characteristics that can affect overall image quality. The EOS Rebel T5i's Peripheral Illumination Correction feature corrects light falloff in the corner of the image according to the characteristics of the lens being used. It even has correction data for a number of popular lenses stored in its memory. With the EOS Rebel T5i's chromatic aberration correction tool, distracting color fringing can be corrected at the time of shooting.
Creative Filters
Seven Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can be seen in real time when shooting in Live View. Creative Filters include Grainy Black and White, Soft Focus, Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect, Miniature Effect, Art Bold Effect and Water Painting Effect. Each effect can be applied in three different levels (low, standard and strong).

An electronic compass records the camera's orientation during each shot, and world time information is recorded through GPS synching.
Photobook Set-up

Canon Rebel T5i reviews

EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 122.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life is good, again. I had a T5i, but sold it to enter the pixel race when Canon released the newest Best Rebels Ever. However, the marginally better dynamic range, greater number of AF points (19 v 9), and increased pixel count of the next generation Rebel didn't provide - unless I really pixel-peeped - images that were better than what I had been able to obtain with my T5i, or the T2i I had before that. So, I dropped out of the race, picked up another T5i, paireded with the superb 18-135mm kit lens (a lens I didn't have), and am once again enjoying amazing images produced by an old sensor, with only 18 mp. ;-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game changer : exceeds expectations I'm the photographer who returned a Canon Luxury lens because of a minimal amount of chromatic aberration. Perhaps if I owned the EOS Rebel T5i at that time I would have kept it. Among the settings there is chromatic aberration correction. I took my Canon 18-200 mm lens off my Canon 60 D and a funny thing happened. It got better. I purchased the Rebel and 18-135mm lens with modest expectations and as a backup camera for a road trip out West. I used it exclusively and had the 60 D as a backup. The camera has exceeded my expectations on every level. I'm getting terrific photos and the camera is as easy or difficult to use as I want it to be. Long exposures in slot canyons in Page, AZ with a tripod were rich and detailed. Grab shots from the car or at scenic areas are easy on P or other settings. I can use some of my old lenses on this camera and they work better than ever. It's a game changer. My friend using the 5D Mark II hopes some of the technology trickles up in Canons new high end cameras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Photography newbie This camera is so easy to use and fun to play with. I'm new to super powerful cameras but this one does everything I want. It's easy to play with the aperture, f stops, iso, easy creative features and video is so clean. Perfect for any artist looking to document their creative life. It sometimes freezes says busy when you want to get quick consecutive shots but you can switch to the multishot mode for that easily. It's beautiful and not too heavy and battery last as long as it says it does which is rare for most pieces of technology I've owned. Used it to shoot a couple of great events already. Buy. Shoot. Enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great DSLR For years I have been taking pictures with a high-megapixel digital point-and-shoot, and then spending hours thereafter editing the jpeg images with Photoshop. I finally decided to upgrade to a real DSLR, and, after much deliberation, decided upon the Canon EOS Rebel T5i. I'm just only just beginning to understand the full range of the camera's functions. Nevertheless, at this point, I'm totally amazed at its capabilities, and I'd be sure to recommend this camera to another advanced photo novice who's ready to take the leap into DSLR photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CANON Rebel T5i I compared the 70D and T5i before I purchased this item. While the T5i has fewer focus points and other difference compared to the 70D I found the number of focus points sufficient to meet my needs. This camera met all of my needs and is a fantastic D-SLR body. I also purchased the Canon BG-E8 battery/vertical grip which makes it easier to handle with long lens. I would highly recommend the Canon T5i. I have shot with film and digital camera bodies and Canon has created a great body that performs very well at a reasonable cost. The buttons are laid out well and the ones you use the most like ISO are in a great spot to get to quickly. The flip out screen is very handy and allows for better shots when you can't look thru the viewfinder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent beginner's DSLR! This is a perfect itroductory DSLR camera. The EF mount is perfect as there are a ton of available lenses at all price points. It's build quality is excellent, and it's very light. If you want to enter the world of DSLR's, this is the perfect choice. I've been using it constantly for two weeks, and it has been perfect. It's not the end-all/be-all, of course, but it's a feature-packed beginner's DSLR that once mastered will give you amazing photos and excellent videos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good camera Great camera overall. I recommend buying a flash if you take a lot of indoor photos as the one onboard is not too good. I customized settings for landscape and portrait programs (I use it almost exclusively in P mode): turn up a sharpness quite a bit and a saturation a little bit. I purchased a spare battery but I hardly ever use it as original lasts a long time even when I use a flash. Of course, I use LCD only to check/change settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I am incredibly happy with this Rebel. I previously owned the 400D (Rebel XTi) and this camera is a huge leap forward. The articulated screen is especially useful for odd angles and shots that were hard to pull off with my old camera. The live view is great, and the 18-135mm lens has won me over with the extended zoom range. I would highly recommend this camera to a beginner or a professional user. The menus are very easy to use, and the live view will feel comfortable to those coming from point-and-shoot land.
