Canon EW-63C reviews

EW-63C Lens Hood for EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 106.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Third times the charm This is the third lens hood I've purchased for my new Canon T5i 18-55mm kit lens with stepping motor. I tried two other hoods that did not fit and eventually realized that this seems to be the only hood that fits Canon's newest version of this lens. The hood fits perfectly snug and is of quality construction. Before purchasing this hood, I read the poor reviews that complained of a loose fit but I believe that those consumers bought this hood for the older version of Canon's 18-55mm kit lens. Although both lens hoods are 58mm, the newer version of this lens has a slightly larger diameter connection, thus making this hood fit loose on the older lens. Hope this helps...happy shooting!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not fit well I am quite disappointed with this hood. It attaches to the lens, but it won't stay on if the camera is bumped or even placed into my camera bag. I even took it to a friend who is a long-time photography teacher at the university in town, and he couldn't get it to fit better either.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from cannot clip on The product cannot clip on the lens as other lens hoods do and gets loose easily. Not sure if this is due to the design of the product itself or a manufacture flaw. Saw similar complains at * as well. It is ok if you use with caution, but still I don't understand why Canon makes a hood that does not fit its designated lens! I have no thing to complain about the ordering and shipping at the B&H though, and that is why I still give it a two-star rating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not all lens hoods are alike I initially ordered the wrong lens hood. Apparently my research neglected the fact that the newer lenses required a new lens hood and that the EW-60c would not fit the Canon EOS Rebel sl-1. That said, I am reordered the correct lens hood and it works like a charm. No fiddly screwing it on and later having it fall off at the just the wrong moment. It may be overkill but I also ordered a higher end UV filter. Just practice for possibly buying a high end lens. It feels good to know that there is protection on the end of my camera lens now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gives variable protection I found the petal design of this lens hood to not provide the same benefits as a full rounded lens hood due to the size of the hood itself. The size lends itself to being extremely narrow where it drops in the U shape going from an inch to a half inch wide. I would not trust the narrow areas for giving much protection from glare or from physical protection. This narrowness also makes for more flex/bend when trying to get a grip on the hood for removing/attaching so I find I must be sure to only grasp the wide sections when turning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funtional This is a very important tool when shading the sun. The sun does major damage to the sensors on a digital camera. I left mine at home and scorched the sensors in Pompeii. Even with the filters, the sun fried the sensors. Use a hood that is made for the camera lens. Do not use an after market. They don't fit as well as the ones made directly from canon for canon lenses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pay the price I looked around for the cheaper version of this and thought about it, but after thinking about it, you spend a lot of money for your equipment, spend the $ bucks for parts that fit and no gaps. I read a lot of complaints from reviewers that spent less money for the knock offs. Well, no problem here. Everything fits like a glove and now issues. I had actually purchased a cheap one from @, but the fit wasn't right. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the $ dollar price tag. Pay the freight and be happy.
