    Brother HL-3170CDW reviews

HL-3170CDW Wireless Color Laser Printer is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 547.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Give A Brother A Chance! So far, so good. After having gone HP forever, I decided to try another brand. My very expensive HP Laser Jet 1525nw color printing went crazy. I purchased very expensive, original replacement cartridges and the color printing still did not work correctly. After extensive research online, I decided to give a Brother a chance. After one month, the Brother works fine. The machine stops printing when a cartridge reaches its predetermined print capacity. However, I found a work around that resets the cartridge to 000 allowing the cartridge to continue. Both B&W and color copies are sharp and clear. If your HP acts up, give a Brother a chance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fuser Defective I bought this printer in late April 2013, by the time October rolled around, it was ghost printing and wrinkling the paper on every print. I called Brother, and they sent me a replacement with no problem, well, it's July 2014 and guess what? same exact problem. the fuser is cracking and chunks of the orange roller part are falling off. oh, and the warranty for the piece of Junk is only valid for one year from the purchase of the original machine, not the replacement. bottom line...don't buy this if you want it to last more than 6 months. and by the way, I was using the correct paper and keeping up with all the "recommended maintenance" per the manual. I am going to buy an HP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality. Low Price. As a community concert band, we need to be able to revise our flyers and handouts on a moment's notice. Our schedule changes, our music changes, and we need to print short runs of our promotional material to reflect those changes. Local printers were happy to print 100 color copies for us for $100, single-sided. We would blow through our advertising budget in no time! We've been using the Brother HL-3170CDW for a couple of months, and we couldn't be happier. Excellent quality. Automatic duplex printing. We can print what we need, when we need it, at a price that isn't going to break the bank. This was an excellent investment for us..!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good color laser printer, for the money. Brother makes great printers (this is my 3rd), and if you need an inexpensive SOHO color printer, this beats inkjets - except in one category. The colors are somewhat muddy and dark. I've tried adjusting the color output, without success. I needed reliable, color printing (no jammed inkjets) for my draft proposals. The 3170CDW works great for that. Duplex printing is excellent. Alternate tray feed is finicky, but useable. Cost per page is about as expected - higher than inkjet, but worth it to me -- and less than many competing printers. When I need perfect color for my final print, I transmit to my local commercial shop.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2 things I don't like This printer works very well. Once it starts printing it prints very quickly. The primary function I do not like is the manual feed. You can only feed one sheet of paper at a time in if you are using the manual feed. You have to stand there and feed the paper in a sheet at a time and it jams frequently. The paper tray feed has no problems. The other issue I have is minor. The printer goes into sleep mode very quickly and every time I print I have to wait 20-30 seconds for it to "warm up" before printing begins. Once printing begins, it prints quickly. The color and resolution on the pages is very good though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Replacement I received a replacement machine for my first purchase that was still under warranty. The replacement machine was obviously a rebuilt product. It worked fine for the first several weeks however now the print quality is totally unsatisfactory. I have done everything suggested in the manual and on the website to try to address the print quality issues, however to no avail.I have spent countless hours and money trying to get this machine to print with any type of quality whatsoever. It appears I'm going to have to buy a totally new printer for my business and at this point I seriously doubt it would be a Brother.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful product with serious network issues The printer prints well. HOWEVER I have had recurrent problems connecting it to our network. It self disconnects frequently . It goes into "deep sleep" frequently and can't be revived without unplugging it and often that doesn't work. Have to frequently reset the network connection etc etc etc. I HATE this printer. I will never buy a brother product again. Nearest service center is 4 1/2 hours away. Very helpful Also the printer won't print when the toner is "low". That is not the same as out. Not even near so that Brother can get you to spend more money on toner. There is a way to bypass that but it is not intuitive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of features, easy to use! We had an ink-jet before this and the ink cartridges were killing us in costs! And the color cartridge would use all the yellow before the cyan and magenta and wasn't always useful to "carry on". BUT, the Brother with separate toner cartridges is Great; even found how to see how much is left in each (from the front panel). It puts itself in 'deep sleep' to save energy - we don't have to worry about turning it off/on to 'kill-a-watt'. The options screen when printing a document is easy to use and follow and with more options than we had before (4 ways to do 2-sided). Besides the paper tray, it has manual feed for special paper/transparencies. It's Great, we Luv it!
