    Brother HL-3170CDW reviews

HL-3170CDW Wireless Color Laser Printer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Give A Brother A Chance! So far, so good. After having gone HP forever, I decided to try another brand. My very expensive HP Laser Jet 1525nw color printing went crazy. I purchased very expensive, original replacement cartridges and the color printing still did not work correctly. After extensive research online, I decided to give a Brother a chance. After one month, the Brother works fine. The machine stops printing when a cartridge reaches its predetermined print capacity. However, I found a work around that resets the cartridge to 000 allowing the cartridge to continue. Both B&W and color copies are sharp and clear. If your HP acts up, give a Brother a chance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for money I purchased this to replace a HP2600N printer. As usual, B&H pricing was competitive and the delivery was fast. This will be used for a small office printer with mostly B&W and occasional color printing. I like the double sided printing feature. Setting up for wireless was easy. Type in the access code and it's ready to print. Let your computer find the printer (I use Windows 7). You are good to go. Colors are accurate. Print speed is adequate for a small office. Printer weighs in around 40 lbs. Measures 16W X 18D X 10H. Happy camper so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Deceptive Cartridge Level Reading Will Cost You BIG I am a re-seller of this product and I have authorized distributors where I can buy this machine to sell to my customers. But have purchased this sometimes from B&H because they have a great price . I have purchased some of these for my own store use and have run into the following MAJOR ISSUE. These machines base your toner level on the rotations of the machine , not what is actually left in your cartridges. If you are printing documents with even a speck of color on them , the machine will tell you to keep putting cartridges in even if they are almost full. I have talked all the way to the top of command at Brother and they tell me there is no work around this and it is just the way the machine is designed to work. If you think this is an economical printer to have YOU ARE MAKING THE WRONG CHOICE. Even as a dealer , I'm not sure who is making machines that will give you accurate info on actual toner used but I am now going to dig into depth to find a manufacturer that is not treating their users this way. I am pulling my machines and directing my customers to another product. Too Bad Brother , I thought you had a winner here. NOT You don't build long term customer relations by designing a product that takes advantage of your customer. Look around on the internet , their are other frustrated customers with the same complaint. Please make a U turn Brother and change this type of problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving This Printer! I've only had this printer for about a week now but i'm loving it. My Epson Inkjet is on its last leg so I bought this as a replacement. I thought the cost of a color laser would be out of reach, but I was surprised to find this highly rated Brother HL-3170CDW at such a great price. Print quality is excellent and I don't have to muck around with different paper types depending on what i'm printing. Connecting it to the home wireless network was easy and setting up individual computers to access it was as simple as using the installation disk. Only minor drawback i've found so far is having to open the back and move some lever positions in order to print on envelopes and lables. Other than that ... love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I've Had to Make Adjustments To Use It I'd like to give the product a higher rating but I've had issues. The printer has physically worked OK, setup went well, the laser printer design is well done. However, my printed color output is washed-out as if the saturation has been removed and the blacks are not dark enough. But my biggest issue is with Brother's Printer driver. I design DVD/CD cover art and labels. This printer driver cuts off my cover art about 1/4 short of what it should be due to a built-in limitation of the print driver. I did come up with a work-around that appears to help with this but it's not a solution. So my experience has been degraded . Though their tech support have made some efforts, they haven't resolved anything. Actually I was told to send it back to B&H. I read a lot of good reviews about this printer before purchasing it so I do have faith it is a good product--it's the easiest to use laser I've ever setup. But I shouldn't have these issues with a new product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast, clean, good color I use the 3170 to make tri-fold flyers for my vegetable farm. I love the duplex feature where it prints both sides (after flipping the second page up-side-down), This is not a super professional job, but I can get a lot of flyers out. This is the cheapest way for me after looking at printing costs from pros or trying to keep an ink jet in ink. Set up was a snap. My mac-mini doesn't have a cd or dvd drive. So I downloaded the driver from the Brother web site. Everything worked really well the first time. I have it hooked direct to the mini with a cable that was NOT included. Lucky for me the cable from the old ink jet worked just fine. Haven't yet tried to print from my iPad using wifi, but will do so soon, I hope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Google Cloud Printer I bought this printer because my old Brother laser printer did not support Google Cloud Print. I use a Chromebook as my take everywhere computer (instead of my Mac Book Pro) and needed a way to print. Google Cloud Print was easy to set up and even when I moved the printer from one residence to another, I didn't have to change any settings. I just hooked it up to my network, hit print, and it did just that!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems good so far... Pros Quick print speed Print from iPhone Cons Wifi setup is tedious if you are not using an access point AirPrint over ad hoc works (finally) Win7 laptop refuses to connect on ad hoc :( - could be software related. Shows up in windows connection center but not in Brother's printer install software Overall great printer but probably not best choice for ad hoc style networks. Side note on access point/ Infrastructure network: (Had an old router laying around which I connected with and it worked great! setup was simple and quick) But that conflicts with my existing setup so no go :(
