The B+W 48mm Yellow SC 022 Filter can be used to increase image contrast when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed.

This filter's effect corresponds to that of a Wratten 8 filter. Wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as violet and blue colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with green, yellow, orange, and red colors are able to more easily pass though the B+W 48mm Yellow SC 022 Filter and into the lens it is mounted in front of. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, violet to blue-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in darker shades of grey than without a filter. Simultaneously, green, yellow, orange, and red subjects are rendered in lighter shades of grey than if a filter was not used.

When applied to black-and-white photography, the increased contrast provided by the B+W 48mm Yellow SC 022 Filter can result in darker skies with more effectively defined clouds. Shades of green among foliage can be better differentiated, while tans are lightened, and the appearance of skin blemishes reduced. Additionally, this filter can also minimize the presence of haze caused by the bluish cast of daylight.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

48mm Yellow SC 022 Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a 48mm filter, but the glass diameter is only 42mm After waiting for ages for an order for the Formatt filter version to be filled, B&H and I agreed to go with this one. At a fraction of the price of the other.....but in hindsight maybe I should have waited. The filter was intended for my Canon LTM 50mm f1.4, which I tend to shoot wide-open or nearly wide-open. The problem is the inner rim of the filter is much narrower than the expected 48mm, so it creates some additional vignetting. Be aware of this. Otherwise, it's brass with Schott glass - great construction, good quality. I have other B&W filters and would buy them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from B&W Quality Ever since an aluminum filter ring galled on my lens thread (bound up), I will buy only filters with brass rings, hence B&W. This filter is for a Leica lens, and it makes sense to use the best filter glass (Shott) on the best lens glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well and Light on the Wallet Gets the job done. This is my go to filter when I want to add just a little more contrast. What can I say, it works and doesn't break the bank.
