The matte gray BL CCM 3 from Schoeps is a large boundary-layer microphone used to capture audio when mounted on the surface of a table or lectern such as in boardrooms, conference rooms, rehearsal halls and more. It is designed for fixed installations and features a hemispherical pickup pattern. It is built with a switching 48V or 12V phantom power supply. The boundary mic has a flange mount enabling it to be unobtrusive and nearly invisible. When mounted, comb filtering effects are eliminated. The capsule and amplifier of the CCM 3 are in a single housing. A 16' Lemo to XLR adapter cable is included.
This microphone features a hemispherical pickup-pattern. It is sometimes referred to as half-omnidirectional. This pattern picks up equally over a 180° spherical angle.
Eliminates Comb Filtering Effects
The BL CCM 3 boundary layer-mic offers better sound quality since it can be mounted on a flat surface. It eliminates sound reflections off walls and other obstacles and helps eliminate the comb-filtering effect. This occurs when the direct sound and the reflected sound arrive at the mic out of phase.
48V Phantom Powered
The CCM 3 also uses a standardized powering scheme known as "phantom powering." Most recording equipment offers a 48V supply for such microphones. Some equipment, however, provides a 12V supply for phantom powering, or can readily be modified for such a supply. The Schoeps boundary microphone can work with either voltage, switching its circuitry automatically to the corresponding mode of operation.
