    Atomos ATOMSUN001 reviews

Sunhood for Ninja 1 & 2 Recorders is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing and Overpriced The product was not well designed or built. The product fits poorly. The hole in the top does not line up with the screw hole on the Ninja. The two side panels are not precisely cut. I basically took scissors to it and chopped it up and installed it with adhesive velcro scripts. I'm very surprised at Atoms. Their products other than this have always built with high quality and a keen eye for the professional user. This fails completely. With all the Ninjas out there there is a good opportunity for someone to make a better sunshade and make some money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Functional but not ideal I guess you could say this works perfectly fine as a sun hood but it almost doesn't seem compatible with our Ninja2. The sides of the hood cover up the power button and the HDMI input. For a product that prides itself on having a simple to use UI, those simple functions need to be easily accessible. You would think this was produced by someone other than Atomos. It's functional but you shouldn't have to workaround your sunshade, it should just work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Perfect for the Ninja Assassin and absolutely essential when recording outside if you've got a stable shot. It's extremely sturdy, well made and fits like a glove after you've removed the outside red rubberized housing that comes with the Ninja Assassin. Plus, the ability to reach underneath in the elastic opening to touch the screen while you're working made our cameraman yell, I like this monitor more now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but be careful! The 2 screws to attach the shade are nice and can still be used in conjunction with a ball head example: Manfrotto 492LCD Micro Ball Head as they are tapped. The only complaint is that it is difficult to get my HDMI connector to plug in with the hood attached, as it can get in the way. You might have to buy cables that have a thinner head in order to be able to plug them in with the hood attached.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functional but annoying It does its job. It blocks out sun. It's pretty pricy for what it does, but the construction quality seems good. The most frustrating part is how it mounts. Screwing into both the top and bottom mount is a pain. Because that means to add or remove it, you have to remove it from the articulated arm holding it. Annoying. I would either just leave it on all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as it should. good build Works to block out overhead sunlight. I like the build quality and the screws that hold it in place also have screw holes built in so you don't lose any functionality. You can still attach articulating arms and other accessories.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helps with direct sunlight! I use this product to get a bit of shade for my Ninja 2's monitor while doing filming out in the field on my C100 (using the Ninja to meet broadcast 50mbps specs). Its very helpful while filming in sunlight as the Ninja's screen is hard/impossible to see in direct sunlight. Its a pretty simple design. I wish that they would of left the Atomos branding off so that it was a bit more discreet. The sun hood has part of the sides cut out so that it doesn't interfere with the inputs, drive slot and power button. This is a a great feature, but I wish they would have made the dye cuts uniform so that the sun hood could be used when the Ninja is mounted upside down. (The Ninja allows for the screen to be flipped in the internal menus to allow for multiple mounting configurations). With these cuts you cannot have the Ninja mounted upside down and use the sunhood properly. Perhaps Atomos could just throw one of these in when you buy one of their products. I can't imagine it cost more then $5-10 to produce. Overall? Buy it. It helps. Wish Atomos would develop a loupe for their recorders though...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sunhood for Ninja 2 Perfect device when shooting outdoors. Perfect when you have uncontrolled light coming at the screen
