FUJIFILM 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 Overview

  • 1Description

Covering a versatile telephoto range, the XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS from FUJIFILM is an 84-305mm-equivalent zoom well-suited for sports, event photography, and portraiture. Its optical design incorporates two extra-low dispersion elements and one aspherical element, which help to reduce a variety of aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity and sharpness. A Super EBC coating also helps to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in bright and backlit conditions. Complementing the optics, an optical image stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake by 4.5 stops in order to achieve sharper handheld photos. Also, a linear AF motor provides quick and quiet focusing performance to benefit both stills and video use.

Telephoto zoom is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and offers an 84-305mm equivalent focal length range.
Two extra-low dispersion elements, including one Super ED element, are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.
One aspherical element limits distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
A 4.5 stop-effective optical image stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
Linear motor delivers quick, quiet, and smooth autofocus performance that is especially beneficial when working with fast-moving subjects.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contribute to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

    FUJIFILM 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 Reviews

XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 204.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from What a surprise! I purchased the Fuji X-E1 after falling in love with the X100. I have loved everything about the X-E1 thus far including the kit 18-55 lens. Now the 55-200 comes out and I'm thinking, this can't be that good can it? But I'm intrigued because of the results from everything else I've tried. Dang it, if they didn't do it again! This is a VERY usable lens which is tack sharp. The Bokeh is as to be expected from an APS C sized sensor and it handles very nicely. I was concerned about how it would perform next to my Nikon 70-200 2.8.... and I have to say, I'm very impressed. It might actually be sharper. Dang you Fuji, you did it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Performer This lens is a nice complement to the remarkable 18-55mm kit lens for the FujiFilm X-Trans cameras. My sample is sharp wide open at all focal lengths, with decent if not spectacular bokeh. The image stabilization is effective: I have no difficulty shooting at 1/(focal length), and can usually get away with one and sometimes two stops slower than that. Autofocus is fast and accurate on the X-T1 and X-E2 bodies I have used with it. Build quality is good. Images shot with it don't seem to have quite the color and contrast punch of the 18-55mm, but if you shoot raw it's easy to make up for that in post-processing. All-in-all, a very solid performer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great travel lens that I would buy again. I am quite happy with the Fuji XF 55-200 f/3.5-4.8 lens that I just purchased mainly for travel. I already own a XF 50-140 f/2.8 lens which is fantastic however the 55-200 is almost 1/2 the weight, is 2.3 inches shorter and 1/3 inches less in diameter. Thus making it a better fit for travel by reducing the weight by about a pound, and fitting better in my backpack, a Lowepro Photo Hatchback Series BP 250 AW II. Based on a 35mm format it is almost 100mm longer focal length. Given its smaller size I can easily fit my Fuji X-T2, with hand grip and kit lens, a Fuji 14mm lens, the 55-200, and my older Fuji XE-1 all in the camera storage area.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Bang for the Buck This lens is beautifully built and exceeds my expectations. It's the least expensive way to get to a 300mm FOV (with the crop sensor) with OIS and full EXIF data in your Fuji X camera. It is possible to handhold shots at relatively low shutter speeds of 1/180 or 1/125 (I am 70 years old), and so maybe even lower for you. It pairs beautifully with my X-T1 especially when I attach the vertical grip. I would like to own one of the even longer Fuji lenses, but when this lens went on-sale for $599 it was a no-brainer. Just get one and save a pile of cash. I am quite certain that you won't be sorry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp and Well Built I am slowly building an X mount system around the Fuji XE-1 and plan to move up to the XT-1. Results so far with the 55-200 mm lens exceeds my expectations. Not only is it sharp throughout its focal range, but the quality of build is impressive. I use the lens mostly for candid street photography where I don't want my subjects to be aware of my presence. But I also have been using it with excellent results for landscape and wildlife photos, as it has the equivalency of 305 mm. My only complaint is with the stubborn lens cap which I've replaced with a third party item, and with the lens hood which is difficult to quickly put on and take off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Quality! I have a love hate relationship with my Fuji X-E1, but I just love everything about their lens. They are an amazing value despite some who complain about their price. They are well worth it and some of the best glass you can get for any mirror-less camera. The new XF 55-200 is built out of the highest quality materias. Feels great in the and and does not feel front heavy at all. It has the best feeling Apature ring of any of the variable XF that Fuji has made so far, and the zoom has the right amont of resistance. Stabilization is very active and works wonders keeping every shot amazingly sharp in every situation. This is my new outdoors lens. From portraits to shooting wildlife its well worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much, much better than expected I have been using high end 70-200mm lenses for several years. They provide the reach I need on many occasions. In moving to the Fuji X system from DSLR I thought my mid-range zoom options would be worse than DSLR lenses. I was really surprised when I started using this lens...the IQ is excellent and a great complement to the Fuji X-E2. Based on many head-to-head comparisons with my equivalent high-end DSLR zoom, the Fuji 55-200 takes better in-camera jpg photos that are tack sharp. I think this is the benefit of the Fuji X-system equipment compatibility, as well as their exceptional optics. Either way, this Fuji lens works better for me than any other equivalent lens...and at less than a third the cost. If you have any doubts, forget about them and buy this lens. You won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb long zoom I have an X-E2 (previously I had an X-Pro1)and shoot both landscapes and portraits with this superb lens. Mechanically and optically it is first class, probably the best zoom lens I have owned since becoming a serious photographer in 1980 (the only other zoom I've owned that has really impressed me is the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8). The distortion across the full range is remarkably low, and the sharpness is excellent even wide open. The AF is not ultrafast, it is true, but since I don't shoot fast-moving subjects, this is not an issue. I highly recommend this lens to anyone with a Fujifilm X-series camera.
