Kramer VP-425 Overview

The Kramer VP-425 PC / Component to HDMI Scaler converts a VGA signal and independent RCA stereo audio to HDMI and allows you to upscale or downscale the output resolution. The HDMI output is non-HDCP encrypted.

Using front panel buttons and an On-Screen Display (OSD), you can scale the input between 480p and 1080p, and between 640 x 480 and 1920 x 1200. You can also select the output aspect ratio, overscan rate, noise reduction rate, refresh rate, and colorspace. A built-in processing amplifier (ProcAmp) allows you to adjust color, sharpness, brightness, contrast, and other settings.

Mounting brackets and rubber feet are included for different mounting options, and you can also rack-mount two units side by side in a 1U rack using an optional RK-T2B rack adapter.

We are redesigning our school board room and this was a perfect fit for our application. Great quality product.

Adequate but I would choose differently

I am using this product to take a component output from my video camera and convert it to HDMI for input to a Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. One of my cameras has SDI out and that works directly with the shuttle. The other two have only component or composite output so need a converter. I prefer the Black Magic mini converter because of the balanced audio. I purchased the Kramer to save some money but another time I would stick with Black Magic. That said the Kramer does the job well and I cannot find fault with the unit. Except that I must reset it everytime so that the Hyperdeck will see the input. It is just a matter of preference on my part.

Requires a component break out cable

This scaler works fine if you use a component break out cable. If the source outputs component video from an HD15 connector, it will not work using an HD-15 to HD-15 cable. It worked when I attached two component break out cables together using RCA type couplers. this allowed for HD-15 plugs on both ends with the breakout in between. This is something to remember when the source outputs component video from an HD-15 connector.

A great machine for most all application

I purchased this to feed the Black Magic Recorder - it doesn't do that but for other applications it would be great. Called Kramer, they don't seem to love Black Magic.

question

Is the output resolution manually selectable? I would like to set it up so that it outputs 480p or 640 x 480 resolution.

According to Kramer, Using front panel buttons and an On-Screen Display (OSD), you can scale the input between 480p and 1080p, and between 640 x 480 and 1920 x 1200. You can also select the output aspect ratio, overscan rate, noise reduction rate, refresh rate, and colorspace. A built-in processing amplifier (ProcAmp) allows you to adjust color, sharpness, brightness, contrast, and other settings.
