Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Overview

Distinguished by a uniquely fast and versatile design, the Canon EF-mount Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM is an Art-series zoom, covering wide-angle to normal focal lengths. Separating itself from the pack, this zoom features an exceedingly bright f/1.8 constant maximum aperture, which suits its use in difficult lighting conditions and offers impressive depth of field control throughout the zoom range. The optical design incorporates a series of SLD and aspherical elements, which help to achieve high clarity and sharpness by suppressing various aberrations, color fringing, and distortion. Balancing the optical merits, this 18-35mm also sports an advanced Hyper Sonic Motor, along with an internal focusing design, to promote fast, quiet, and precise autofocus performance.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Wide-to-normal zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-mount cameras and provides a 28.8-56mm equivalent focal length range.
Impressively bright constant f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Hey B&H experts, why isn't there a lens similar to the Sigma 18-35 1.8 for Sony apsc emount? I mean, that lens already exists, it's not impossible to do. Even with 18-24mm I would settle
Asked by: Renzo Nahuel
The Sigma 18-35 1.8 is my favorite lens. I am not aware of a Sony lens that matches it's quality. However, the Sony SEL1655G Alpha 16-55mm F2.8 G Standard Zoom APS-C Lens may be what you seek. I am not familiar with the lens, but it has the mount you require and is close to your requested zoom range.

How fast is this lens to focus? Will I be able to reliably use this lens for basketball?
Asked by: Stacey
This is my very favorite lens and it creates gorgeous stills and video. However, it is unsuited for action sport shooting as it is a wide lens. If you are using a Canon, I highly recommend the Canon 70-210 zoom for recording basketball. It can quickly frame an action shot and make the most of Canon's excellent auto focus system.

I just brought the sigma 18/35 mm EF art and im going to upgrade from APSC system to canon 5D mark 4. Will this lens fit or do i have to buy an adapter?
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens will be able to mount to the 5D mark IV, however this lens is designed for the APS-C sensor so it will not cover the full frame sensor of the 5D resulting in a severe vignette on the image. This can be alleviated by cropping the image in post to remove the vignette but you will not be taking full advantage of your new camera. I would recommend using full frame lenses(EF) on the 5D and using this lens only on APS-C cameras.

can we use Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens ...

can we use Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon c70 with ef adaptor ring withougt a crop ?
Asked by: Sanandeep
If you use the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF on the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) without activating the [EF-S Lens] feature, it is possible for you to notice some slight vignetting and peripheral illumination fall-off. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF is designed for the APS-C sensor, while the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera uses a Super35 sensor. Page 27 of the C70's instruction manual states that this camera's sensor is larger than the sensor size for which EF-S lenses are designed (APS-C). When using EF-S lenses with this camera, you may notice peripheral illumination fall-off or vignetting. Page 164 of the camera's instruction manual does state that there is a menu setting under [Camera Setup menu (CAMERA mode only) ➞ EF-S Lens] which you have the option to set to either [OFF] or [ON]. They state that if peripheral brightness fall-of or vignetting occurs when using an EF-S lens, you may set the [EF-S Lens] setting to [ON] to slightly crop the imaging area. The image is enlarged digitally by a factor of about 1.04x, affecting image quality. In most cases, leaving the [OFF] option is recommended.
