As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Wide-to-normal zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-mount cameras and provides a 28.8-56mm equivalent focal length range.
Impressively bright constant f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

I’ve been using the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art for a few months now, and it’s hands-down one of the best investments I’ve made for my camera kit. The image quality is stunning — razor-sharp even wide open at f/1.8, with beautiful color rendering and contrast. For anyone shooting on a Canon crop-sensor body (like the 70D, 90D, or 7D series), this lens basically acts like a trio of fast primes in one package. The build quality is solid and professional, and the autofocus has been fast and reliable for both photo and video work. I primarily shoot video, and the consistent aperture across the zoom range is a huge plus. Low-light performance is excellent, and the shallow depth of field at 1.8 gives a cinematic look that’s hard to find at this price point. If you’re working on a budget but don’t want to compromise on image quality, this lens delivers in a big way. It competes with much more expensive glass and is easily one of the best APS-C lenses available for Canon. I've used this lens numerous times in the past, borrowing from friends or other photographers and have wanted to get one for myself for quite some time. Glad I finally did! As expected from Sigma, the pictures come out super crisp and sharp. Focus control and zoom are very smooth and easy to use. The only con I've found with this lens so far is that the auto focus motor is a little slow and noise, but not a huge deal if you shoot manual stills. Definitely makes me want to buy more from Sigma.

i know this is for crop sensor. but will it work on full frame without a huge black edge around the image? this lens seems amazing!!
From most all reviews I have seen, typically, everyone does state that the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Lens for Canon is an amazing lens as you mention. However, as the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Lens for Canon is designed for APS-C cameras, it should not be used on a full-frame camera. Trying to do so may damage the reflexing mirror in the camera or the rear element of the lens, or both, and as it is designed for the smaller APS-C sensor, there would be a black border around the edge of the frame where the larger sensor is looking at the outer edge of the lens' housing.

I just brought the sigma 18/35 mm EF art and im going to upgrade from APSC system to canon 5D mark 4. Will this lens fit or do i have to buy an adapter?
This lens will be able to mount to the 5D mark IV, however this lens is designed for the APS-C sensor so it will not cover the full frame sensor of the 5D resulting in a severe vignette on the image. This can be alleviated by cropping the image in post to remove the vignette but you will not be taking full advantage of your new camera. I would recommend using full frame lenses(EF) on the 5D and using this lens only on APS-C cameras.

I want to adapt this lens to my Sony fs5. Would it make more sense to order the EF mount version and use either the MC-11 or Metabones Mark4? OR.. Order it in the Sony A mount and then use Sony's A to E mount adapter? I believe Sony's native A mount of this lens won't go directly onto the fs5.
You will get similar results whether you go Canon EF to Sony E or Sony A to Sony E adaptation. But, it is best to trust the results of the Sony to Sony functionality (eliminating a 3rd party product), so the Sony A mount to E mount adapter is recommended for the FS5.

Is there any performance information about using this lens on a APS-H sensor camera such as the Canon 1D IV
While we have not tested it ourselves on the a 1.3x crop camera such as your 1D Mark 4, one customer has reported there is slight vignetting at 18mm but that disappears once you zoom past 20mm. He even tested it on a full frame and found it was only usable at 35mm.

Will this Sigma lens work with Canon R5 with Canon RF to EF adapter? If so will image be cropped for 1.6x magnification? Will image be sharp? Will auto focus face and eye detection work fast and reliably?
The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF will fit and autofocus on the Canon EOS R5 with Canon RF to EF adapter.
Because this lens is designed for cropped sensor cameras the camera will go into cropped sensor mode. So there will be 1.6x magnification, the file will be small and the image quality will not be as good as the camera could produce.
