Panasonic 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

A truly versatile all-in-one zoom, the silver Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens from Panasonic is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 28-280mm equivalent focal length range. POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) benefits this expansive wide-to-tele zoom range by compensating for camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. The lens construction incorporates three aspherical elements and a pair of extra-low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions for greater image sharpness and clarity. Multi-coatings have also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity in harsh lighting conditions.

Complementing the imaging capabilities, this lens also features a stepping motor for fast and quiet autofocus performance that benefits both stills and movie shooting. An inner focusing design maintains the overall lens length during operation and also quickens focusing speeds.

Designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, this lens provides a 28-280mm equivalent focal length range to cover wide-angle to telephoto perspectives.
Three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements combine to minimize aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range for increased clarity and sharpness.
Multi-coated elements help to suppress lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy.
POWER O.I.S. compensates for camera shake in order to realize sharper photos and videos when shooting handheld.
Stepping motor provides smooth and near-silent autofocus that pairs with an inner focusing design for quick performance. The AF system is also compatible with Lumix cameras' high-speed contrast-detection systems for focusing speeds up to 240 fps.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces a smooth out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.
Durable metal lens mount offers a secure connection between the camera and lens.

    Panasonic 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 reviews

Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens (Silver) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 94.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-around lens. I own two Lumix bodies and 6 different lenses. I end up using this lens about 60% of the time, even though it's slower than the 35-100mm f2.8 and 12-35 f2.8 lenses I have. The range is optimal for general photography and street photography. I also like the extra zoom range beyond 200mm (on 35mm format). I have occasional issues with focus, but it's probably due to user error more than the lens itself. I've found it to be super sharp when used correctly. The OIS is great too. It's a compact workhorse that I use for most outdoor shooting unless I know I need bokeh and narrow depth of field that faster lenses (and primes) provide. The value for what you get is very high.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from worth the upgrade I used the previous version this 14-140 lens for a few years. But dropping half a stop and half a pound was just too much to resist for a hiking setup, combined with my Panny GX7. 1.5 pounds for a high quality, 28-280 equivalent walk around total rig really makes a difference. Optical quality seems good. Minimal lens flare doing a session of snow shots into the sun. I am stepping around the lens jitter issue by shooting with the electronic shutter. Stabilizer works better than I expected from the reviews. I am dinging it a point due to the jitter issue. The lens shouldn't drive me to avoid using the standard shutter, otherwise an awesome lightweight lens for this much range. I wish it was water resistant.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Serious auto focus issue Finally I was able to find one of this lens as it was out of stock in many places. I had my first opportunity use on a event (dance performance) with this lens attached to Panasonic AF100. I shot the video in auto focus mode and I see that is keeps loosing focus for no reason. First I was thinking it is loosing focus when I was trying to zoom in and out but it is loosing focus even when I am not doing anything. I have to say I am really impressed with the picture quality I got when it could focus. I look for firmware upgrade if there is one to fix this problem and if not it is going back for return. I also think it is hightly priced.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good for photos bad for video I am happy with all photo aspects of that lens. The BIG disappointment is that POWER OIS jitters when shooting handheld video. I cant hold GH4 and this lens so steady that it wont jitter all the time. I must post stabilize every clip. That is a pity and kind of strange because I can shoot very pleasing and steady video with all my MEGA OIS lenses (14-42, 45-200, 100-300). Even at 300mm MEGA OIS videos are more pleasing and steady handheld than at 14mm POWER OIS.I have asked Panasonic to make a FW fix.I am a bit disappointment of many reviewers in their blogs because they dont test video features of lenses properly. That POWER OIS fault is so obvious that a careful reviewer should notice it and tell it us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed for the money! I purchased this to test out the new Panasonic GH4. I was about to purchase the 12-35 and 35-100 mm lenses for well over 2K, but being new to panasonic I decided to try this lens first. #1 there was a back order so I purchased the older version of this lens. I was very disappointed. When this lens came in it was perfect. Smaller and lighter than previous model. completely silent when shooting video. And very high quality pictures and 4K movies. Unfortunately Panasonic doesn't offer any thing in their Higher End lenses that compares. your forced to buy the two mentioned above. If you don't want to spend $1500 + $900 for the other two lenses, or you just want an all-purpose lens...You Will Be Happy With This Lens. Regardless of what I decide I will keep this lens. Extremely impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal range I have been using an DSLR for the past 10+ years. I am tired of carrying around all that weight. Ive been looking around for an alternative. I have tried OM-D with a Olympuis 14-140 zzom. But it just did not feel comfortable. So, when the Lumix GX7 came out, I went to B & H to check it out. I had the Lumix 14-140 lens installed. Right off the bat, it felt very comfortable. Also, it's reasonably light weight. The Lumix GX7 and the Lumix 14-140 zoom has become my all around go everywhere camera. The lens produces very sharp images. I would recommend this camera setup to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality and all around camera lens This 14-140 mm lens replaced my old 14 - 42 mm Lumix lens. I also have the 100 to 300 mm Lumix lens. The problem that I had was that by the time I change to the longer lens for a close up shot, the wild life has moved on. Now with the 14 140 mm lens I can take scenery pictures and if an eagle or a moose comes along, I have reasonable magnification. But more importantly, I do not miss the shot. It is a great all around camera lens. This lens is surprising light but very well made. Zoom is very smooth even when zooming while taking videos and focus is fast. Pictures are very sharp and the optical image stabilization is wonderful. I love the complements that I receive about the quality of my photos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Do it all for the M4/3 I have a variety of primes I like to use: 20mm 1.7, 45 mm 1.8, 60mm Macro, but needed a do it all lens for daytime photography with no bag. I originally purchased the cheaper 45 - 150, but found it to be lacking on the wide end. In comes the 28-140, very useful range, this is my go to 'do it all' lens. I can carry this during the day with the 20mm in my pocket for low light situations and I'm all set. It's also very sharp at 5.6 throughout the entire range, and there is no lens creep, highly recommended.
