K-Tek KNS3 overview

  • 1Description

The Nautilus from K-Tek is a universal microphone shock mount that is designed to offer suspension and vibration absorption to any shotgun mic. The mount features a spiral design that applies an even distribution of force in three dimensions. This allows you to move the mic in any direction no matter which way the microphone is oriented.

Mounting rings slide along a single rail and can be positioned anywhere on the rail to accommodate different sized mics

    K-Tek KNS3 reviews

Nautilus Universal Microphone Suspension Mount is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Check Your Mounting Requirements Nice stylish shock mount at an affordable price...Please note if you plan to use this mount on a camera or studio mic stand (5/8) you will need to purchase additional adapter hardware. I sent an email to K-Tek on this matter and received a fast response....Reply from Sales Manager at K-Tek... ..The threaded hole on The Nautilus is a female 3/8 x 16 thread. This is standard for all boom poles. If you want to put the Nautilus in a camera shoe, we make an adapter called the KSA that screws into the bottom of The Nautilus and has a shoe for the camera. If you want to put the Nautilus on a studio mic stand that uses a 5/8 in thread (that's the standard thread for studio mic stands), then you need an adapter. We don't make those, but B&H has one on their website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best microphone suspension, hands down I've used this on a variety of microphones for film production. Nothing comes close. I've used the Rycote Invision, mostly before this, and the Nautilus blows it away. The fact that it is pretty much universal for all my mics is amazing. I don't have to have all these different suspensions (that don't work well anyway). I've gotten rid of all of my Rycote Invision mounts and replaced them with just a few of the Nautilus mounts.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little heavy and a bit noisy I use this mount with my Sennheiser 416 shotgun. Had great hopes on this product when I first saw it. Unfortunately, it's a little noisey when your in run and gun situation. The weight is another issue. My shotgun mic with a dead cat on it weakens the tilt portion of the mount quite a bit. I find myself always having to tighten things down if I'm really running around a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product We haven't had it for that long, but so far so good. Nice that it comes with the two different tension mounts. The black ones REALLY hold on tight, infact so tight that at first I worried about scratching up the mic when I went to clamp it in. No problem, though. K-tek makes good stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First impressions are positive The Nautilus certainly holds the microphone securely, and worked well in my initial use (indoor, stationary, C-stand supported boom-pole). The latches are quite stiff by design. More extensive usage under more adverse conditions is needed, but my initial impressions are positive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not so sure about this Hesitant to buy this based on lack of reviews. I am an audio professional and expect my equipment to work properly, always. First off, I do not find the grey mounts to be effective for ANY shotgun mic. They flex too much and actually adds noise from the mounts bouncing off themselves when used with an NTG2 (already quite light compared to most other shotguns mics) and dead cat....too much weight for it. The heavier duty black mounts I can not use because they just freely slide along the mounting rail. There is no way to LOCK the mounts on to the rail leaving you guessing whether or not your mics are going to fall off the mount or not. The little roll pin clamp does almost nothing when locked and if you forget to lock them, they will interfere even more with your set-up. Additionally, it looks a bit cheap and resembles plastic coat hangers.
