Manfrotto MH293D3-Q2 overview

  • 1Description

This MH293D3-Q2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 8.8 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC2 quick release cam lock and a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. RC2 compatible quick release plates such as the 200PL-14 can be removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be quickly reattached.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate before securing it to the pan-and-tilt head. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 30° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Both the 360° rotation as well as the backward and forward tilt movements function simultaneously, however for changing from a landscape to portrait orientation, the sideways tilt can be independently adjusted and secured.

The control handle for the combined backwards and forwards tilt plus 360° rotation, and the control handle for portrait orientation can each be used to lock their corresponding movements by twisting each handle's ergonomic grip. For storage and transport, the MH293D3-Q2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head can be positioned so that both of its handles are arranged parallel to each other as well as to the legs of a folded tripod the head is mounted on. This configuration measures approximately 3.0 x 5.0 x 7.3" with a slim profile, helping to ensure that the the MH293D3-Q2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head fits within a bag or case whether carried alone or attached to a tripod.

    Manfrotto MH293D3-Q2 reviews

    MH293D3-Q2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and price, but no precision As an architectural photographer I wanted a lightweight 3-way head for travel and casual work. This head does the trick, but it lacks the precision and sturdiness of the bulky Manfrotto 808RC4 head that I'm used to. The good: it's light, very compact, and lives up to the quality I expect from Manfrotto. The bad: It's difficult to get it perfectly level - adjusting can be jerky and difficult. There is no safety mechanism or redundancy on the locking mechanism, which makes me wary of accidental release. Finally the plate/attachment to the legs is not the standard size I'm used to, but instead a smaller diameter that won't be secure with my carbon legs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Head Bought this as a non fluid replacement head for my really old lightweight Gitzo Tripod. I love my Gitzo's but did not love the head on that tripod. It finally broke ( metal cracked due to fatigue of 30 yrs ) and I did not want to spend a fortune replacing it. So I got this one, because I have other Manfrotto stuff and because I love that line of gear and the way it's made. Super Lightweight, very very strong, foldable grips, and best of all when you clamp it down, it stays put. Extremely happy with this replacement head, especially for the money. Don't be fooled by it's lighter weight. It's a winner for light duty tripod work. Buy it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so sure about Adapto The adapto joints have a lot of stick-slip behavior, which makes fine adjustments difficult. This may improve with use. Also it is good to be aware that there are only two handles. One of them handles both the pan and vertical axes. Of course, that's in the description, but I didn't notice so much. I bought this for light weight, but may end up using my old Manfrotto 3030 on my new lightweight legs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Photo head so i got this head on a really sturdy manfrotto tripod. only i originally got the tripod for wedding videography, not photography, and so i quickly released this is a for photos not videos, it sucks because it is a very neat head and it has lots of cool features, but its just not for video, its not smooth, but rather rigid and sturdy, Its also really compact, one of the handles folds in , so it makes for easy traveling,

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Calculus challenged Took me a while to figure out how to undo the handles. Ok, but not as smooth a you would expect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good I haven't had the chance to use this in the field yet, but when I tried it everything works great, the only thing I was not keen on was that with a DSLR attached, I have a Canon 5D mk111, as soon as you touch the release leaver the camera falls off quickly. If this happened accidently you would be in trouble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Manfroto 3way w/ pan and tilt. I bought this to replace my ball head That I have because I don't like the ball head set up. The Pan newest panand tilt head has foldaway handles that allow for better and easy packing in my cary bag. Has smooth adjustments for all directions. one item that could be better, the base of the unit is slightly smaller than the pad where it mounts to the tripod. so you can't use the tripods added mounting screws. also There is no secondary locking on the QR plate. But that is a personal choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Head for the money I bought this head for my glide gear slider and couldn't be happier it even held up to my sony hdr-fx1 didn't think it could handle a bigger camera but I was surprised it held up well!!!!
