Tokina AT-X 12-28mm f/4.0 PRO DX Reviews

A wonderful wide angle lens

I bought this to use with my Canon 90D. I shoot landscapes and architecture photos (avid hobby of mine). I love the focal range and the quality of the images is superb. This is a home run at a really fair price. I will buy more Tokina lenses in the future. B&H has a great selection of toys - and I always prefer to buy here.

Seems Fine

I have not been able to use the lens very much so far, but the times I've used it, it seems to take good photos. I am pleased with it on my Canon 70D.

Good Lens With Some Challenge

I brought this lens for a birthday gift. I knew about it and made few searches. GF didn't like it as it was a bit tricky to use (she said). I used it a bit and find it was pretty good for the price. However, I decided to return it and the process was really easy. Great BH service all the way, as always. #canadianuserreview

Image quality is only so-so.

The wide angle's great, though there some spreading at the left and right sides when you're at or close to 12mm. This makes people who are in this part of the frame seem wide and distorted. The image is pretty soft, though I plan to experiment with f-stop settings. For some reason, even with my Canon 70D on P setting, the lens sometimes produces very underexposed images when zoomed out. There's some chromatic aberration, but it's not too bad on this unit.

Disappointing

I recently purchased the remarkably sharp Tokina 11-16 f2.8.  I then purchased the 12-28 in the expectation that it would provide equal image quality over a wider zoom range.  Unfortunately the edges are a bit soft at 12mm, even when stopped down so I returned it to B&H.

Convenient

I have been a prime lens user for many years. I was hoping to create a travel set up for landscape photography and this lens fit the bill. It seems like a reliable tool and although it is still new to me, I am still learning its strong points. So far I know that the performance seems to lack at the long end. It seems a bit soft. Not a big deal for me personally since I don't use this focal length much anyway. A shout out to B&h who really helped me out with a bad shipping situation. They showed great integrity and were very helpful.

I like the wide screen. I still need to get out there and really use it!

One of my favorite lenses!

I bought this instead of the 11-16 and 11-20 since it has a more practical focal length and the constant f4 is nice for film-making. I filmed a scene with it recently and it really delivered! Tokina lenses are very underrated - the build quality is excellent and they are fun to use, too! For the price, don't think twice about getting it!
