A clever short telephoto, the Sony E-mount ZEISS Touit 50mm f/2.8M is a 75mm-equivalent prime suitable for both portraiture as well as close-up shooting. As a macro lens, it features a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification ratio and a minimum focusing distance of 5.9" for working with nearby subjects. Its advanced Planar optical design includes two aspherical elements and two low dispersion elements, which help to control a variety of aberrations, distortion, and color fringing in order to produce sharp, well-corrected imagery. A floating elements system is used, too, to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range. Individual elements also receive a ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, suiting both photo and video use, this lens incorporates a DC autofocus motor to deliver especially fast, quiet, and precise focusing performance.

ZEISS Touit 50mm f/2.8 Macro Overview
Short telephoto prime is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 5.9" to suit working with close-up subjects.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in available-light conditions and also contributes a relatively smaller, lighter form factor.
Planar optical design affords high sharpness and consistent performance throughout the focusing range to suit photographing at a wide range of imaging scales.
The optical design utilizes two anomalous partial dispersion elements to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.
Two aspherical elements control distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and more accurate rendering.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.
Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range.
DC autofocus motor delivers quick and quiet focusing performance to suit both stills and video shooting applications.

question
Does the lens you are selling have the latest software so it does not have to be sent back Zeiss to be updated?
As far as we know yes it does come with the latest firmware. Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to inspect the lens prior to shipping them out.

question
why I have sound noise when using manual focus in video mode ? Can someone help me. Thank you
This is one of the (several) disappointments about this otherwise excellent lens: manual focus is not truly manual , it is fly-by-wire in the sense that turning the focus ring does not transmit movement directly to the internal parts, instead, this triggers the motor and the motor imparts movement internally. This is why focusing by hand still makes the noise: you're hearing that robust motor mentioned in the other reply because it's being switched on to adjust focus. This lens is not usable for video unless you're not capturing audio at the same time. Don't even try it, you'll just end up pulling your hair out in post... To be fair, Zeiss should put that in bold letters at the top of the product description.

question
I'm looking for a macro lens for my Nex-6.Is there a difference between a true Macro lens, and this lens, which offers 1:1 Macro capability? Is there anything that the Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro lens will do that this lens will not?(For example, I read somewhere that a true macro will have a flat focus plane, rather than a curved focus plane. Is the focus plane of this lens flat or curved?)
I bought this lens for use with my NEX 7 in an underwater housing. Yes both lenses are macro lens and both will should perform the same except for the focal length difference and as far as I know they have a flat focus plane. I have found the 50 mm hunts quite a bit in autofocus. I tried this lens using the crop mode in the NA-7 and it performs much better -more like on an SLR . Both lenses will work the same but you won't be able to back off as much with the 30 mm. Also this lens is approximately equivalent to a 75 mm on a full frame (1.5x). With the 30 mm it is approx 45 mm. I hope this answers your question.

question
How would this be on a Sony a7s? I have a Sony 50mm macro A mount, but have to use an adapter, and it is noisy focusing. Also what is the close-focus distance?
I use mine currently on a Sony NEX 6 in a Nauticam housing for UW photography. Mostly macro. I will be moving it to a Sony 6300.
