Short telephoto prime is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 5.9" to suit working with close-up subjects.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in available-light conditions and also contributes a relatively smaller, lighter form factor.
Planar optical design affords high sharpness and consistent performance throughout the focusing range to suit photographing at a wide range of imaging scales.
The optical design utilizes two anomalous partial dispersion elements to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.
Two aspherical elements control distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and more accurate rendering.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.
Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range.
DC autofocus motor delivers quick and quiet focusing performance to suit both stills and video shooting applications.

ZEISS Touit 50mm f/2.8 Macro Reviews

Excellent Marco Lens!!

This lens is about the same size and weight as the Fuji 18-55mm zoom, which is to say it is a nice size for the X-T3/4/5 and X-H1/2 bodies. A tripod is definitely needed for 1:1 shots as well as using manual focus. Overall the lens is sharp, quiet, and is a macro focal length not available in current native Fuji lenses. It's a great compliment to any Fuji XF collection!! Note: I got this lens to be my macro lens primarily for scanning 35mm negatives with a future Negative Supply setup, although it is also a nice 50mm (75mm equiv) walk-around lens with the option of VERY close-up shots.

Limited Macro Subject Usefulness

I purchased this lens to be used on a Sony a6000 to photograph insects and flowers. I've found it's usefulness for those purposes is limited by extremely shallow depth of field in the usable f-stop range The sharpness is good, on a par with but not superior to Sony-Zeiss lenses I have used. Focusing is often rather slow and the lens continuously hunts for focus while the camera is turned on. Construction and materials are superb and the lens is very light weight.

Amazing

I originally gave 4 stars 5 years ago: after using this since then, I think this is is quite an amazing lens. For macro, I only use the electronic shutter, which eliminates shutter shock. While the manual focus is by wire, I thinks it’s quite good, especially when compared to the Fuji’s. What really sets it apart, though, is the hypnotically beautiful bokeh. I love this lens!

does not live up to zeiss legacy

The entire line of zeiss touit lenses are a waste of money. the aperture will seize after minor use and it costs basically the price of a new lens to get it repaired by their service center... even if it's under warranty. build quality gets zero stars. avoid.

The entire series of touit lenses is a waste of money. As a long time Zeiss professional user I was excited for these lenses to come out for the apsc format but they disapoint in every way. The image quality is mediocre. The autofocus is basically unuseable. the build quality is atrocious and cheap feeling. The aperture on my touit lens siezed after a year of use. So much for lenses being a lifetime investment. Avoid the touit series... and all modern zeiss lenses for that matter.

Sharp macro with Zeiss quality

I've only given this lens a short test, but really like what I see so far. It is sharp and produces good results. As someone new to macro, I have to get used to paying much greater attention to depth of field, but it's easy to evaluate that, especially since I use this with my Fujifilm X-T2 which has a great EVF -- what you see is what you get. I'd read that one downside was the slowness of the autofocus, but I feel it focuses reasonably fast. Even so, I'll try to use manual focus more. The Zeiss reputation for quality is another factor I considered here, and indeed, this lens is solidly made and the optics are terrific. It feels solid and well constructed. Only one downside -- it does not have image stabilization built into the lens, but that's something I can work around, mostly. All in all, I'm very pleased.

Outstanding images

I am not really sure why these Zeiss lenses aren't more popular. In my experience, both this lens and the 32mm one give me the most beautiful images both in terms of sharpness as well as color, I guess it's what is referred to as the Zeiss look. The other Fuji lenses I have, including the 90mm f2, just simply don't match the image quality I get with these. They are bit slower to focus sometimes, but otherwise I absolutely love them and they have become my go to lenses for almost everything I do.

What's Not to Like?

Light weight, quiet fast focusing, terrific color rendering and sharpness. Does justice to Fuji Film simulations. If you want more than that in this focal length range, you will be hard pressed to find it

Does the lens you are selling have the latest software so it does not have to be sent back Zeiss to be updated?
Asked by: Neil S.
As far as we know yes it does come with the latest firmware. Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to inspect the lens prior to shipping them out.

question

why I have sound noise when using manual focus in video mode ? Can someone help me. Thank you
Asked by: Cidoiu V.
This is one of the (several) disappointments about this otherwise excellent lens: manual focus is not truly manual , it is fly-by-wire in the sense that turning the focus ring does not transmit movement directly to the internal parts, instead, this triggers the motor and the motor imparts movement internally. This is why focusing by hand still makes the noise: you're hearing that robust motor mentioned in the other reply because it's being switched on to adjust focus. This lens is not usable for video unless you're not capturing audio at the same time. Don't even try it, you'll just end up pulling your hair out in post... To be fair, Zeiss should put that in bold letters at the top of the product description.

question

I'm looking for a macro lens for my Nex-6.Is there a difference between a true Macro lens, and this lens, which offers 1:1 Macro capability? Is there anything that the Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro lens will do that this lens will not?(For example, I read somewhere that a true macro will have a flat focus plane, rather than a curved focus plane. Is the focus plane of this lens flat or curved?)
Asked by: Jeff S.
I am shooting a NEX-6 as well. I believe that the Zeiss 50mm is a true macro lens that can also be use for portraits. I don't think there is anything that the Sony 30mm Macro can do that his lens won't (I own both lenses), but I can say that this lens can focus closer and get better images than the Sony 30mm. I can't say that the focus plane of this lens is flat or curved.

question

How would this be on a Sony a7s? I have a Sony 50mm macro A mount, but have to use an adapter, and it is noisy focusing. Also what is the close-focus distance?
Asked by: Anonymous
The ZEISS Touit 2.8/50M is designed for APS-C sensors, but can be used successfully on the full frame A7 cameras. The camera will automatically crop the image, providing an angle of view equivalent to a 75mm lens. The close focus specs on the lens are located on the ZEISS website and is 6.02 from the image plane. http://www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/en_de/camera_lenses/touit/touit2850m.html
